Sub.

Aye your spot on there !!!!

She goes out and spends £££££££££ on books, DVD's and all sorts of junk and complains about my boats X3, planes X1, submarines X3 !!! Hmm maybe she might have a point

I must admit it bugs her more the amount of time I spend doing these models. Went to Tesco today and just had to bypass the workshop, well I mean its a lot more interesting in there!!!

I have the same problems (not problems really,,,more annoyances).
I find this-
"i will spend less on my hobby this year than you will on Hello, OK, Bella, TV Quick, Flowers, chocolates, hairdo's"
Usually shuts her up! )

(Actually i will probably spend less than the first three alone)

After negotiating the day off work today luckily I have fitted the bow thruster into the lower hull. As you can see by the picture its not finished yet, as the fillers show. But its in place and the outer hull is done. It took a little bit of re-working as I said previousley i was a bit over zealous with the hole cutter, so more fillers please!

Its in and I have the capacitors on order and the wires ready. While I was on with making the outer hull presentable again I have smoothed off the rough edges on the fins and rudders, and filled the gaps. I have had to reinforce the tip of the stern, as it was so thin I put my finger through it. I mean so thin the gel coat was the only thing there.

While all that was done I moved back to the electronics. My second speed controller turned up today and it was a fairly easy job wiring them all up. I am using the Mtonicks Viper Marine 20, just a standard 20 amp speed controller. One of the easyest ones I have had to set up, literally plug it all in, turn it on, press one button and its calibrated. And the benefit of it being 100% (aparently) waterproof. Just in case!

Both motors work, and pull a max of 4 amps I think it was?

Basically the bits left are fiddly bits on the hull, I have ordered a few stantions for handrails, the rails on the outer casing, painting and finishing. Oh and tidying up the wires and fixing in the hardwear inside. I might upgrade the battery while I am on, I am trying to find the highest capacity 6V one I can get. Think this one might be heavey on the juice

Then the pressure testing and ballasting

I hate submaines today!

Today has been mostly spent having to re-position the internal workings of the boat. I was about ready to finish the power leads and that was it, everything done inside. Unfortunately the periscope mechanism was not clearing the battery.

So.... I have had to strip everything out of it, move the main board to a different position, move the battery further forward and change the fixings for the piston tanks. On the piston tanks I took those awfull jubilee clips off and used a binding strap of plastic. Looks a little more discrete. But one other major problem I had was the battery. It was to tall for the lid to fit on !! ST!!! As before I placed it on its side.

So, after a few things were thrown about the workshop I proceeded to think about the solution. Now I didnt want to have to remove the base plates, there a real pain in the arse to get out, as I have said before, I should have made the opening in the water-proof container larger ! But looking back is fine

I also took the oportunity to put some more capacitors onto the motors. I was finding that I was getting quite a bit of interferance off the power supply. So I have had to upgrade the surpressors. Very impressed with the motors supplied. They are very free running and stay pretty cool. Will find out for sure when the boat hits the water though.

One thing that is bothering me is the plastic tubing Engel have sent to fit onto the tanks. Its pretty hard plastic, and there isnt much give in it. I find it slides off the nipples on the piston tanks rather too easily for my liking. I may change it for some standard silicone tubing, and just replace it every couple of months. I would hate something as trivial as plastic tubing to sink the thing !

So I have cut out a hole for the battery to fit into in the base plate at the forward end. Luckily the ballast isnt there so the battery fits in nicely into the keel and is kept in place with the plate. It has actually worked out a lot better than the previous method.

So hopefully tommorrow I can finish with all the electrics and start on the detailing of the model ! Might even find some time to buy some paint

Paul

I have finally finished the electrics inside the boat. All wires and servo extensions are in, everything is wired up and harneses are fixed. It still looks very busy inside but at least its all in and working.

I managed to get a little of the detailing done this afternoon. I have put some of the rails on the outer casing which run along the forward and stern ends. But nothing terribly interesting to be honest. just mostly filling, and sanding down. I have ordered some brass for the handrails on the tower, and some running lights and a few other bits and bobs like, stantions for handrails, white running tape, that sort of thing.

The only bit of electrics I havnt got done is the forward thruster. I need to get another electronic switch, but might have to wait until pay day for that one, other half will give me an ear bending if I get anything more for it this month

I got a few cans of paint for it this afternoon. I am using Plastikote Super matt black, and the plastikote Ice cream white for the sonar chin on the forward end of the boat. I have only got 2 cans of black, but I will probably have to get a 3rd, as its a big boat and I am sure I will run out. I will get it into pristine finish, and then I will weather it when its done. Before anyone at the lake starts to poke holes in the paintwork!

Not that it will stop em, most cant stand subamrines at our lake, they seem to prefer trawlers and life boats. No imagination some people !

As you can see from the paint, I literally just finished spraying it. It is matt, just its literally out of the tin!

So onto more detailing and filling !

Paul
