Me 109e

hi folks, first post here!

i just bought a matchbox ME 109E, and plan to begin construction this weekend, so i thought this might be the right place to keep a sort of log, and also a place i might seek advice. it has been a long time since i've built a model of any sort, and airplanes we not really my specialty. i'm really more of a tank man.

one of the reasons i joined the forum today, is that i'm building this kit at a disadvantage. i'm in beijing. proper supplies are at a minimum to say the least. the owner of the small model shop i found, is very nice, but speaks no english, and my chinese is limited. i doubt i will be able to get my hands on a proper airbrush.

the good news is that the kit looks to be in good shape. the detail is not to bad, but will certainly need some work to get it looking good. i will post some pics when the construction is underway.

Hi Chris and a warm welcome to the forum. I'm looking forward to following the progress of your 109 and I know there are many people here who will have plently of advice and tips to help you along your way.

Don't forget there is no such thing as a daft question and everyone here started off as you did!!

just a quick update on my progress so far.

i found a store with a good selection of paints, and i bought an excellent airbrush with a compressor from him too. i used to have a pretty good airbrush years ago, but this one is really nice. i was surprised to find such a good supplier here in beijing. i also stocked up on all the basics like setting and masking solutions.

i did have a little problem with the masking tape i bought here. there was way to much glue on it, and it left residue and removed paint. very bad, but i fixed it, and got some better tape.

Any progress? I always like to see how models are coming along. I am a (relative) newcomer to the hobby, having started again about 2 years ago.

hey Chris, maybe you can help me to find a decent shop in beijing where I can buy a nice model of a sailing boat? I am looking for a present to a long time friend who will leave beijing and move further south.....
