Ju 52/3m 1/72

Well, here comes my new model – Ju 52/3m 1/72 by Heller. I wouldn’t buy this kit because I don’t like their quality. But the kit is a present and I decided to make it as well as I can. First I bought a book: Luftwaffe Transport Units. The model represents machine that served in KGzbV 1 in Greece, May 1941.

I made several changes and added some home made upgrades. I weighted wheels, scratch built machine guns, used different painting scheme that that “from the box”. I used Techmod’s balkenkruzes and swastikas, some dry decals for black lettering (yellow letters are painted). I also used my Zundapp KS 750 as a cargo. Enough talking here are some pictures; unfortunately I did not photograph the build from the beginning.

As you see I had to fill some shorts with Milliput (main gear). I also swapped the pushrods with lengths of thin wire. More pictures coming soon.

Regards,
Marudek

Hi there!

Here are more pictures:

The model is almost finished it needs only few more touches. I think I must share my new idea: I made the antenna wire with a single fibre of dental floss! After gluing it - I applied black wash and simply love the result. Now I just have to paint the nose art (decals I've printed myself are too small 8( ooops!) Here is the nose art - the emblem of KGzbV 1.

Regards,
Marudek

Well done Peter, the Ju.52 3/m just oozes character, dealing with those corrugations can be a nightmare with decal application, you just have to use a decal setting solution.

Hello!

Thank you for your kind words. Yes wonwinglo, setting decals was a challenge. It needed a lot of Micro Sol and patience to set them right. Interesting thing is that Micro Sol worked on DECAdry decals as well.

When I finish painting the nose art, I'll post some more pictures. I am thinking to take few shots outdoors in black and white mode.

Regards,
Marudek

A lovely job with very effective weathering. Combined with the superb decals make this model exeptional.

The Zundap completes the picture perfectly.

Thank you Bunkerbarge. I made the weathering with Tamiya sand stick and my wife's cosmetics.
