Richard, take a look at those round pizza polystyrene bases, they have a surface just like that soundproofing, you could always slice through the material to thin it out, then use PVA type adhesive to stick it in place, just a thought ?
Very nice model with some dedicated workmanship going into it.

well i have been a busy modeler today. these pictures probably represent about 12 hours of build time. boy do i need some sleep!!

put the two fuselage halves togeather and added all the photo etch. there are a few little things that need adding but then i have to mask up and put the first coat of paint on. although in reality i probably wont get around to painting until next week.

Very nice Richard. Can't wait to see that one finished. Take care of those seams though between the fuselage halves!!

i know i still have to do a bit of sanding, filling and more sanding but im not too bothered about the bottom as it wont be seen any way, but the top needs to be perfect.

thanks for the comments.

I can only agree with the others here Richard,

She is taking shape nicely and looking very much the part indeed, Nice level of detail on there too.

With regards to the soundproofing, I think you did a good job there, very much looks the part...it's a shame the kit manufacturers don't include this as part of the Kit.....Matchbox used to. I checked My 1/32 Puma the other day and it has this included with the Kit.

Keep the pics coming.

Regards......Mark.

NOOOOOOO!

Sort out those seams on the bottom too! Otherwise you'll still know they are there!

Richard a small tip to deal with those lower seams, cut a small piece of flat plastikard so that it fits between the various bits and pieces sticking up,load the joint with green squadron putty and drag the piece of flat card between in one sweep as smooth as you can get, allow to dry and make a special sanding block from a piece of balsawood or similar with some wet and dry mounted to it,just keep working on the joint until it is fine, the fault lies with some shrinkage in the mouldings at that point, the company are aware of the problem,do your best and you will then know in your mind that you have done what you can within your skillful capabilities.
It really is a nice model and you are doing it justice, well done.

thanks for the tip Barry.

saying that is a really nice model. I just took a good look at the 1/48 hasegawa AH-64D apache i have and it is sooooo detailed. the rivet and hatch details is amazing!!!

anyone want a build thread for that one as well? lol. i will be using the eduard update set for that one as well but the set for the apache is not way near as detailed as the one for the merlin as the hasegawa kit is pretty darn detailed anyway.

anyway, away for the weekend so no more work on the merlin untill tuesday!

take care
