Honda NSX Raybrig (WIP)

Evening all
I've finally got round to taking a few pics of my current build so all comments are very much welcomed. As some of you with a sharper eye will notice the body work looks ok untill you get up close and then you'll see the "orange peel" so any help to get this corrected will be most welcome. My airbrush setup is as follows Badger 200 airbrush connected to an air can, the paint is from the Tamiya acrylics range. The paint was mixed as follows
x2 one part
x4 one part
x16 three parts
Anyway here are the pics I hope you enjoy looking at them.

Ta muchly for taking the time to look

Regards

David

Still a lovely looking model though so don't be put off. We all have a display cabinet full of models we know we could have made better so just learn from it and move on.

Causes of this type of effect can be low air pressure, if you are using a gas can keep it in a bucket of warm water while you spray otherwise the pressure drops off, or paint too thick, obviously thin it down a bit. A couple of very thin coats are always better than one heavy one. You might be able to recover this by a lot of carefull wet and dry work, but you could also make it worse, or you could go over the top with a couple of coats of clear laquer which will help to cover over the surface imperfections.

Hi David

Nice looking model so far and I am in agreement with Richard above, a bit of patience and some wet and dry work will probably recover the paintwork enough to get a nice finish. Keep going, I am looking fowards to seeing how she finally turns out.

Ps I take it you got my PM for the links to the engine pics. Having seen your engine here now, I know the first link was spot on !!

Regards.......Mark

nice work mate!! everyone makes mistakes. the best thing you can do is calm down, sit back and try and work out how you can best resolve the situation, or even if it is worth it at all. Are you happy with it? As long as you dont get yourself frustrated and end up throwing it in the bin or agains the wall all is good!

There was a thread on another forum a while back named "are you a three foot modeller?" What that ment was, do your models look great from about 3 foot away, but any closer and flaws start to show. Its amazing how many people are happy with it looking good from 3 foot away and dont strive for perfection. even if their models are great in my opinion lol.

Richard

No no I'm going to take all the tips and hints give so far as I'm going to try and recover the body work.

I've only restarted my model making after years and years off and never used an airbrush before, I'm kinda ok with the rattlers. It kinda feels like I'm starting all over again!!! I'm in no big rush to finish the model so I'm happy to put the time into it.

So please any tips, hints and how to's are all very very welcome

plastick get hold of some Micro mesh it's very fine 1500 to 12000, used for cockpit glass and watch faces it will get rid of your orange peel effect. Sand in one direction then with next grit sand @ 90 degrees to first and again till desired finish is achieved

Good luck Graeme.
