Source of Carbon Fibre For Model Use

Hi all,

Not sure if any of you have come across this site already or tried these guys already but they are certainly well worth a look.

www.carbonology.com As can be seen they supply carbon fibre in sheets/tubes etc and do cater for the model side too. So far they do cater for model aircraft and model cars. I have also had it from them that they will be adding a model Yachts section to the site shortly listing accessories for them too.

The model links can be found to the left on the page.

The size / price range is definitely comparable with what I have seen elsewhere so far....(in fact I believe these are the largest sizes I have seen for these prices anywhere yet)

The goods are usually made to order which is a nice touch and a quick turn around time. I recently ordered a sheet of the 2.3 mm thick sheet at 400mm by 175mm size. At first I received an e-mail from the company saying that there had been a slight delay on the due despatch day of my item owing to the original sheet having come out slightly twisted and that they would not let seconds leave the factory. A new piece was made up and very promptly despatched out. Bearing in mind I ordered this on a Friday just before 5pm, they don't work weekends and I received my item Today, Thursday. Given the original slight hiccup with the first sheet that they made, I think that is excellent service. The e-mail to explain the slight delay was a nice touch too.

Anyway I am now in possession of my sheet and the quality is excellent. One side is very high gloss finish, as can be seen in pic 1 below, you can see my reflection in it holding the camera when I took the pic. The other pic is the matt side which features nice rounded edges. I will be using this sheet to make the new chassis for my Nephews Skyline posted elsewhere on here so the rounded edges are ideal on there. (Will post photos up as cutting commences) All the sides along their lengths are perfectly straight (they may look slightly curved along their lengths on the pics but they are not...!!) I have measured my actual piece of sheet and it actually came out at 400mm x 178mm so I cannot complain there, better to have slightly oversize than undersize...I can still trim that if need be.

And Last but not least, the sheet came with a helpful set of safety / cutting instructions...more than welcome these days.

This is a Uk Based company and the guys are looking for more ideas for more model products.

Steven Greaves is one of the partners and can be contacted at:
[email address] or you can e-mail them via [email address]

Regards.......Mark
