Some time ago, I mentioned I was helping my grandson get into modelling. After just a few weeks he said he wanted to build a railway gun. I thought it was a bit early as he hadn't tried some of the techniques in small scales. However, he insisted and we've ended up with this:

IMGP2849.JPGIMGP2851.JPGIMGP2852.JPGIMGP2853.JPGIMGP2854.JPGIMGP2856.JPGIMGP2857.JPG

It's a good kit and goes together well - although it is inaccurate in showing the engine housing as storage space for ammunition (as I found out a week or so back!).

I did about 60% of the building - the tiny fiddly bits - while PJ built the rest and did all the painting. I'm quite pleased with it and PJ is well chuffed. He's got a long way to go with his patience - I've deliberately kept the build slow to try and force him to slow down and take more time - and he's surely going to need it for his next chosen kit.

The Gods help us 'cos he's bought the Revell 1/32 He 219! I've got one in my stash so we're going to do them together like a mini group build. If he works at the same time as me, I think that will cause him to slow down and force him to take care.

Anyway, comments and criticism are welcome.

PS I've just noticed we forgot to paint the bearing surfaces of the wheels! Oh poop!!!!!

Top work from the dynamic duo.
Dave, it doesn't matter who did what percentage. The good thing is that you've managed to keep PJ interested and that has to be the main goal.

Pass on my congrats. to him. More Tunnocks and Eccles Cakes needed at Cosford perhaps?

Ron

Great looking K5. It's nice to see some of us passing our knowledge on to the next generation.
Well done to both of you!
Cheers Rick H.

Hi Gern and PJ
Great build. Certainly not the easiest kit to start with. It is encouraging to see the younger generation having a go at the hobby. Well done and good luck with the 1/32 He 219. A nice idea for the generations to work along side each other. I hope the two of you will consider a joint blog.

Thanks Jim. As I don't know what a blog is, I'm not sure if we'll do one! I will try to remember to post progess pics though.

well done if this is the result he is going to be a natural.

Thanks Paul, but I'm not sure if PJ will make a natural modeller. I think he has the ability but he sadly lacks patience - big time! I've practically had to sit on him at times to wait for paint/glue to dry before moving on to the next step. That's why I offered to build my kit along with him - he's going to have to slow down to match my pace.

I've already warned him that his next build will almost certainly take him up to his birthday. You should have seen his face when he realised that's not 'til next May - and therefore the build is gonna be several months! I think he had visions of showing the finished kit to his mom & dad at Christmas.

Come on Dave, get with it and get in the groove.
You have to use computer speak! It's just a strange word that's spilled over into model making etc. for what you and I would refer to as a build thread.

Please try harder.....

Why should I have to learn another language? It's about time these computer people learned to talk proper English like what I do!

Don't start us off on modern "speak " I read an article the other day where a women was starting her own business.
it read " I had already provided an income generation stream through working with other business . " You will be pleased to note that she was in HSE. Say no more, other than pure bull :poop:
Good day.
