At long last someone is making a proper Edwardian period movie of War of the Worlds set in England as per the original book as written by N G Wells. Hopefully it will be far better than all the very distorted Americanized versions that have been made for cinema and TV over the years.

i was excited when I learnt that Spielberg was going to make WotS but disappointed to find it so distorted from the originall and Americanised. Also having read Jurassic Park about 2 years before the movie was released was also disappointed at Spielberg's distortion of Michael Crichchton*s book. If it had been made as per the book the film would have had an 18 rating, but I guess it was toned down for a more general audience, not to mention all the marketing spin off stuff.

Noel,
I couldn't agree more. I still have my beautifully illustrated copy of Classics Illustrated Comics production of War of the Worlds. Do you know when it is due to release and will it be available on BBC America?
Cheers,

Rick, Sorry to take so long to reply. Not been on this forum for some time. I am afraid I do not have any idea about when it may be released on BBC America unfortunately. It has been advertised for pre Christmas release in the UK as a 3 part series on our BBC. My guess is that you will get it soon after unless dually released on both sides of the pond. Maybe BBC America has a website to go to for future release dates?
Am a fan of authors of a certain era such as H G Wells, Jules Verne and Edgar Rice Burroughs science fiction novels.

Rick. War of the Worlds for the BBC was being shot in Liverpool. If you have been watching the Poldark series Eleanor Thomlinson who plays Poldark's wife is playing one of the lead parts in it. There is a snippet of what to expect on the internet to look up with a picture and some info about the cast.
All the best. Noel

Guys Not sure if War of the Worlds is going out on the BBC before Christmas after all. They have not been advertising it lately, so I guess that it will be sometime in 2019.

Peter, I can sort of remember that Tripods series from the 80'/90's. Forgettable!
The new War of the Worlds being shot looks to be good. Let's hope it lives up to expectations.
Many of the new BBC Dramas have been very good if anything to go by.
No viewing dates given yet. Watch this space!

Still keeping up with this thread. I hope to hear some good news soon. There has been nothing about this on BBC America that I am aware of, so I am relying on you
folks for information and airing dates. Thanks and Cheers, Rick H.

I agree with you; Tripods is better forgotten than remembered, and that the bbc's current crop of drama do tend to be very good, so fingers' crossed for this production.

Don't remember that but i remember the also awful 'Day of the Triffids'. Low budget and bad acting. Bit like the 'V' tv program

Al -
I remember Day of the Triffids with John Duttine in the lead role, I loved it and even have it in DVD! Likewise I remember enjoying V, well at least the first series, it did get a bit silly later on.

Just goes to show - you can't please al lthe people ...

Never got around to watching Tripods but remember enjoying the books when I was an early teenager.
Agree V went downhill.

Always remember the many complaints on “points of view” about the lack of “tripods” in “tripods”......funnily enough I don’t really remember the program though...
