Hi Tony and welcome to the forum.
If this bridge is a part of the layout project, it should ideally be in that thread. Sort of keeping everything in the one place. Think of it as one big diorama.
I fear that if there are bits here and bits there people will find it hard keeping up.

Hi Ian, I didn't know where to put the bridge project, can you move to the right thread in layouts be great then, yes it is will be the main feature of the layout as there will e a road bridge beside it later after the trains are running.

Many thanks Tony

I cut the side beams of the bridge today and joined two together, well only for a test run to see how the arch will sit, since I am not using aside beam in one whole piece will join the two 7 foot deck sections together with one 7 side beam and cut the other one in half to make up the 14 feet.

In first pic the arch is 2 feet from the track deck, where the rulers are is where the end sections will sit , 8 inches high to under the arch and 15 inches long, won't be fully closed in, will cut the centres out, bugger spelt centre wrong on the paper, that be another day, I will need to buy more ply..

Also that means I don't have to file all t]of the 12 inches, hopefully get some off cut ply form the timber mob just down the road, bridge will start taking shape once the end pieces are cut and screwed in place.

Tony, I'll follow this as the size alone and construction is going to be interesting. Agree with Chris on the use of metal for the underside.

HI Chris and John, I hadn't thought of steel tubing beam in the middle, am hopping the double 12 mm ply sides and double arch stop the sagging fingers crossed .

Chris I am thinking of using the rails as bus wires for the bridge to save on bus wire, but still will need wire to connect to the next section using plugs , will be plug and play set up.

Tony ,that's going to be very strong at 24 mm, should do the trick, though a 3 x 9mm section of ply would stop any twisting .Just a thought .

Hi John, I am thinking about actually having cross pieces 12 inches apart on an slight angle from rail deck to the bottom of the side beam which is a inch, instead of filling the ends of the beam the arch ends be part of the side beam making it even more stronger, a bit more work get rid of all the small off cuts..

Will work the angles out on paper first, can't wait to start, may even add a middle beam has to stay up in one full bridge , will look stunning painted in gray, even of thinking of putting a bloke with a sail kite ready to jump off, something different, yes steps hand rails on the sides of the arch.

I like the look of this.

Thanks Colin , more to come, start work on modifying the modules in the shed be 4, two will start permanently where they sit, got a vertical 5 track double deck staging yard to go in shed as well. Looks like I will have to have to show my control panel pride and joy and the of DC wiring madness connecting the control panel with the new build I hope to improve .

Hi Monica, thanks, I be going down to the shed to test that idea I have for the scenery , can't have plaster outside wont last, to expensive for water proof filler , yes I live in SE/QLD where the temps can get very hot a few days in row, not train running in summer only the cooler months, where model boats will take its place.

I being finding a lot of your figure and tank builds pure awesome more to find, I love tank with the girl sitting on guess it is a Tiger tank looks so real indeed.

How are you going ok we are staying safe quiet week , wife has an eye specialist appointment where I hope to con her into buying some more off cut ply for the bridge .

Tony take care

Hi,Tony,,this will be awesome ,an epic build for sure, what I would be doing for the scenery,is to use packing polystyrene on your water proof ply, shaped then give it a couple of
thin coats of concert , over it once set will stand up to the weather and use cheap paint ,will do the job,
ah cool so pleased that you do like them and there is a lot as well, yes thats a tiger one of my fav tanks,
well hope all go,s well for her with the appointment keep that 1.5 away from people, thats why I,don,t like going out people still stand on top of you aat the best of times
and I,m not one for the shopping anyway .
hope that you are able to get some more ply ,waiting to see this bridge take shape
cheers
keep well

Tony this is just my opinion but thinkin your bridge satdistics through in my mind at 14ft long an building in wood will when you've built it all will be a bit on the heavy side so if I was building this bridge id fit two or three 14ft long sections of aluminium H BEAMS goin underneath the bridge an this will give it strength but will help keep the bridge lighter if you see what I mean but I don't want to interfere on your ideas so you build it as you think best

I looked back on some pics and found the first bridge I build, the whole span is 21 feet, don't have that room now, main span is 14 feet, inside is 13 feet, but the first pier was held down with long garden stakes, did have trouble with sagging till I made up some longer ply strips with stopped the sagging.. Begining of the new bridge design.jpg Looking at the pic I plan to do the same with the two 7 foot sections , have a 7 foot side beam on each side and cut two ends, then will double that again making the side beam 24 mm's thick, have thought of a steel frame being on a budget hope my idea will work, the arch is pretty light mainly just for show and help as well, soon find out .

HI Monica, I have another idea, using aluminium foil and put the chux super wipes cloth over that and spray with the clear stain or varnish, when dries will hopefully mould to the shape, fingers crossed, if works b a good cheap way of scenery, I could fine where there is rock cutting at the side of the road and do the same idea, what do you think.

Thanks for the kind work, in some ways I like the tiger too,, did the Germans have a super Tiger came in too late to do anything., I like tanks too especially the Abrams tank want a few to make up an Australian military train, a groups of them look good on wagons, Australia have special wagons for the Abrams tank only one tank per wagon not like in the US they have two on a wagon, does look awesome, one day.

Fingers crossed I can get the off cut ply cheap enough, don't want to buy a full sheet from Bunning

Enjoyed looking at your fine work on those figures, amazing you used cheap paint wow pretty awesome indeed .

Take care yes we make sure we stay our distance, 6 new cases in a Townsville hospital
