CA accelerators, advice?

Me again, sorry!

After advice about using and types of CA accelertors

Andrew has pointed out one type , are most sprays? I would imagine a spray would waste a fair bit?

Would appreciate some pointers if possible

Yes the sprays do waste a lot I think. When you only need the smallest amount like the CA itself you get a great dollop and cover most of the model. Wonder if spraying some into a lid and using a old paintbrush / needle to drop a small amount into the area would work
Before you rush off to buy expensive modelling types have a look on Amazon Bob,I've just run out and will try there first .

Thanks John. Stumbled on it by accident. Works well too. Just drag the piece across the tip and hey presto.

So you wipe the pe part then add ca to either the part or the kit and attach?

Hi Bob

The few times I've used it, be it DIY or modelling, is to put the CA on the thing the item is being glued to e.g. wall or model.

I then apply the accelerator to the thing being offered up to the surface or attached to a kit e.g. stowage or PE.

in the case of modelling as you can see the tip is far too chunky to be precise with and so it is much easier to drag the item being glued on across the tip to apply the accelerator.

You have to be pretty careful with placement as the accelerator is surprisingly effective.

I use three CA's Bob. Gorilla Glue which is slow setting allowing you to move the piece if needed to do fine adjustments. Industrial strength CA which sticks as soon as it hits the plastic. Black CA glue which shows up where the glue is so you can clean it off with debonder. The world of CA glue is an enormous one and everyone has different CA's they like and use. Over time you will find a system/particular CA that you like and does the job for you. Keep asking the questions my friend as its always a short cut to having to work it out yourself.

I have a home made accelerator in an old Tamiya glue pot (50ml maybe?)

It's a mix of IPA and sodium bicarbonate, like yer man's, but probably a bit more bicarb, I didn't weigh anything, just used a spatula.

I've not noticed any issue with residue, but I only use it for things where you need a really quick 'grab', like attaching antenna wires.

It definitely works and the cost is almost nothing.

Interesting if IPA/Bicarb works as that would keep quite well in a recycled Revell Contacta container with the needle applicator - or even in a syringe - the issue I have with the spray versions (I use Expo at the moment) is the overspray. But the spray does evaporate very quickly.

Another cheap and simple trick to getting superglue to set more quickly is to breathe on it: it sets because of a chemical reaction with water, so if you supply it with additional moisture from your breath, it will set more quickly.

Yes. That certainly works too but doesn't give that quick 'grab' you might need attaching an antenna wire or similar.

I've replied to Bob about the UV glue but I thought I would just drop in my two penn'orth on activator.
At work we rarely use the atomiser as it can affect the paint and 'bloom' the clear acrylic.
We decant it into a dropper bottle like this- much more controllable and economical.
