Right back on with the Graf Spee!

20211123_122922.jpg
Finished most of the superstruture, not attached, i had to use filler in a few places. Not good fit in a few areas.

Next few things to do on the hull then paint and add for the first time the wooden decks.

Some of parts on this and tashkent snap fitted no need for glue but other poor fit and rough mouldings??

Forgot to add, will deffo be having a go at a seascape:rolling:

Bob,
paint as much as you can before adding the wooden decks - it's a real pain to have to touch up, without getting paint on the wood! I generally put a coat of varnish on the wood deck after it's fitted, so you at least have a chance of getting paint off if you have a mishap!

You kindly gave me advice ref wooden decks, i intend to paint the hull, spray the deck hatches and other deck fittings, varnish then the wooden decks??

A question if poss Dave, will the superstruture sit on top of the wooden deck or is there a gap to glue the superstruture onto the plastic on the orginal deck?? If its the wooden how do you glue the superstruture to it??

Bob,
I think it depends on the deck maker! Some I've had fit around the superstructure, others the s/s sits on top of the wood. In the latter case I've used CA, very carefully, to attach the s/s, and strengthen the bond between wood & plastic.
Incidentally, if you're thinking of a seascape, then get yourself a stout base! I've had problems with flexing of the base, after you've done the sea, and it cracks & starts to fall off................ I reckon 8mm MDF, or at a pinch 6mm for the Graf Spee, it must be around 500mm long?

Bob,
I buy mine from this place https://www.woodsheets.com/ they cut to size, which is useful, as I don't possess anything larger than a junior hacksaw...... I bought several pieces of different sizes, to economise on shipping!

I can't look anymore I keep seeing that StuG in the back ground. Having nightmares of being chased by one :crying:
The floaty thing on the other hand is interesting, good tip from Dave on the varnish.
I shall look from over the top of the sofa.

Do not panic folks, still breathing! Still in dry dock!! Finished a lot of the superstruture, secondary batterie, AA stuff etc.

Same as Tashkent many of the holes in the deck have needed drilling to fit, poor!

One big mistake, should have painted the various bridge decks before fitting them, D'OH

Everything is loose by the way!

Next paint hull, add false waves then go at wooden deck!

Hi Bob
Really starting to look the part now. Shame that the deck holes need drilling. Not a problem but time consuming and annoying. Looking forward to the wooden deck. Clean the deck thoroughly before fitting it to get a good stick down.

Try not to worry. It happens as you get older. It's when things actually fall off that the problems really start :smiling: :rolling: :smiling:
