Morning all,

have been stricken with a flu like bug that is going around (wiped out half the office) so not much modelling done over the weekend

I have also currently lost the mojo for the Tiger II :sad-face: - sorry

Was feeling slightly better last night and picked this vintage kit from the old Airfix reissues pile - obviously for this build, the 88mm being wheeled, is a no no so a quick bit of airbrushing removed it from the picture, literally

there are a few parts in there from the 88 - unavoidable due to the sprue breakdown

A bit of flash here and there but not too bad

Dodgy looking crew figures so typical of the old Airfix kits

sd7-006_2019-1-15.jpg
made a start by chiselling out the right track guard to thin it all down and form the return lip

1967 - just a year younger than me so it is quite an old kit! (it is probably in better shape)

The old Made in England is still visible in spite of the attempt to obliterate it

Made a fair few of these when a lot younger, including a small conversion based on the old Airfix Magazine Guide book - one of the first conversions I ever did

Hopefully I can retain some interest in detailing this one and actually finish it - may then give the tigger another look

Hi Simon, same here - 53 within a couple of weeks:flushed:.....

A real classic this one, can remember my brother had one back in the 70ties, fond memories of all these Airfix kits!

Sure it will get your special treatment and will come out great.

Cheers
DIRK

I'll never forget the smell (the green powdery stuff they spread before brooming the hardwood floors) of our Woolworths ("woolyworts") where my first models were purchased. PaulE

Simon, I'll follow this as I have always been interested in these medium towing tractors.
I remember how excited I was when these were first offered by ROCO in 1/87 scale!
Cheers, Rick H.

Always a pleasure to follow your builds, Simon.
I have such feelings of nostalgia for these old Airfix kits!
I built most of them and just seeing them takes me right back to my teenage bedroom , filled with the smell of ..........
Humbrol and white spirit!

Fillet of a fenny snake, In the cauldron boil and bake; Eye of newt and toe of frog, Wool of bat and tongue of dog, Adder's fork and blind-worm's sting, Lizard's leg and owlet's wing, For a charm of powerful trouble, Like a hell-broth boil and bubble." Two spoons before bed should sort you out. :thumb2::smiling:
Get better soon Simon.
John.

Dirk - 53 coming up next week for me :sad-face:

Lee - thanks

Mick - thanks for dropping in. Good old Woolies

Paul - don't know about that, ours had grey vinyl :smiling3:

Jim - thanks. I shall have a go

Scottie - cheers

Rick - have you built any yet or just stashed?

Neil - Hi. I know exactly what you mean - I guess a lot of us started with these as they were the only kits you could easily get
They are rather poor by todays standards - lacking detail and/or accuracy but still fun to do. A little simple modelling can lift them to a more acceptable level

John - darn it, I'm right out of lizard legs at the moment :smiling5:

Lee - definitely! I think I shall stick with the chicken soup

Morning all (well it is here),

the lurghi is a weird one - get a different symptom every day. Now on hacking tickle cough - great fun. At least I feel better generally. A large proportion of our office staff have been off with it - no stamina

have thinned out the front wheel arches and cleaned up a lot of the parts ready for assembly or rebuilding as necessary but nothing worthy of a photo yet

Simon, check out my latest post under completed soft skins. I don't want to clutter your thread with a bunch of old photos.
Cheers, Rick H.:smirk:

Rick - will have a look :thumb2:

Steve - thanks for dropping in. Yes, the tracks are going to be interesting. Good old non flexible, non glueable vinyl - will need to do something about that.

sd7-008_2019-1-18.jpg

trimmed one of the side panels down to a closer match with the shape of the real thing. Airfix had just made a single large panel to make moulding easier as seen at the top

Afternoon Simon ( in your world .)

Hope your feeling better, I've put some fresh Lizard legs in the post.
You must be the only person Time Lord with the old school flexible bench ! .

Are those lizard legs?

No, it's just the way I'm standing :smiling5:

Feeling much better thanks

Pared down the other side rail tonight then chopped the main centre section about to remove some incorrect details and thin down others

sd7-010_2019-1-19.jpg
the three parts were then joined together and weighed down in an attempt to keep things square as the glue drys
