Highlights and shadows added to the gold braiding.

Leather saddle straps have been weathers and had a gloss varnish followed by a matt varnish in places.

Red piping has been started.

The circled area will need rebuilding. Still having great fun with this one.

Once the piping has been highlighted and missing bit added I think the next thing will be sorting out the hooves and painting the knees.

Haven't had much time recently to crack on, but I have got the rear tassels added to the horse, needed to snip off the corner points on the straps for the tassels to line up, then needed to sand away the underside of each tassel so there wasn't a 2mm ridge between the moulded strap on the horse and the tassels to be added. Also painted the tail strap (?) and added to the horse, its not quite long enough to join the tail loop and the main strap, plus the tail end is just flat and butt joins onto the loop, so decided to fair this in with some Vallejo putty. At the other end the gap was filled with more putty. Its quite a hard piece of resin and when i tried to bend it to conform to the horse body it snapped at the buckle. I was ever so gentle, just rubbing between my fingers, but snap it did. Which as it turned out was a blessing as it now sat completely flush, oh but i did need to carve and file away some of the straps on both sides to make the channel for the strap wide enough for the channel.

The putty needs sanding now, touching up and then the tassels and their straps varnishing.

You would, but to be honest, when i opened the box i did think what have I done !, I have got the family to spend £120 on something i cant do, but seeing how excited my children (20 +18) were when they gave it me, knew i had to at least have a go, and as Aesop said 'Slow and steady wins the race'. So with that in mind, thats what i have done and so far seems to be working out okay.

Started work on his pelisse and the braiding. The braiding was/is a 3 step process; first a coat of gloss black, followed by the gold and then the pelisse areas touched in with red and any mistakes, gold reapplied. I found the best way to get the gold on was to use a Army Painter Dry brush, small one, and basically 'buff' the gold onto the raised details.

Once all done a wash or black was made and flowed into the recesses. Still a couple of bits to tidy up

Same process for the legs.

Hi Steve
You're making a cracking job of this. On something this big, this complex and this expensive your 'slow and steady' is the only way to go. Certainly paying dividends judging by the way it's going.

I have been quietly getting on with painting colonel burthe, got his pelisse/domain and trousers painted. Need to do his gloves and boots. All paints are from scalecolor artist tube range.

Finished his head, fear if I play with it to much more I will ruin what little skill I have been able to employ. Re-did his hair as was to blonde, added a 5'oclock shadow and glazes (red, yellow and blue). Shako next
