Hi guys, I was asked a couple of weeks ago if I would weather a club members 1/16 RC Chieftain.

Now this is a £470 bit of kit so I was, well bricking them. He wanted rust, etc and I said no, it wouldn't have any, these tanks only went on exercises came back, washed down and lived under a roof with mechanics etc coddling them.

I stripped the wheels and did a outer rubber wheel, the reflector decals fell off so I managed to find some red crystal type that fitted perfectly.

A very light graphite rub just to show a metallic wear on edges etc.

I then did a oil stippled wash and when dry, a dust matt varnish was airbrushed on. Finally I did a very light dust/dirt mist coat around the bottom using the airbrush.

Added a touch of smoke pigment to the exhausts.

I also made a aerial for the rear bustle and toned down the barrel thermal sleeve.

Hatches were also painted inside as these were just left the green plastic.

Hi Si
A case of less being more. It looks just right to my eyes.
Jim

Ta Jim, agree, I really watered down the dirt/dust coat as I just wanted the effect without obliterating the underneath colour too much.

Looking really spot on Si, nice one must be a bit nervy messing with someones build but reckon you've nailed it

Yeah, was nerve racking, how far do you go, is it enough? If it went too far it would have to be a total strip down and repaint. Glad you think I got it right Rob.

Thank you Andy, it was a case of remembering what era the tank lived in and how it was used.

Nice work Si

Cheers Mick, looks good on natural light, it tied together really well.
