Hi Jim, the liner does seem a possible way, but the glue I used UHU didn't appear to work, the other adhesive / sealer Stixall would have been better. Having said that the foam is rather dry and crumbles and both glues didn't like it. Next time when doing water I shall use the Stixall for the liner, and a normal run of the mill polystyrene packing sort .If I layer that I can use UHU POR and sandwich the liner in between .Hi John
Looking good. Sound idea for preventing 'water' leaks - hope it works ok. Rosemary wood looks useful. Is it fully dry? will it need a coat of matt varnish to sort of preserve the bark and the colour?
Jim
The Rosemary wood is quite old, some of it came from the base of the shrub, in fact it's the biggest Rosemary I've ever seen at least a mtr wide and 70cm in hight. From looking at completely dead pieces it looks the same as live, so don't think it will loose much colour if any, it might get a quick spray with Matt varnish .
Si, yes experimenting as we go, get these ideas and try them out, as I said to Jim this time it didn't work. That foam is the yellow Jablight type . Has an aluminium cover to both faces over a card. It's been in my attic for the last 10 odd years , seemed the best place to store it But it's either dried out or was always a bit dry and crumbly.Evening Mr Race,
Blimey, it’s all going on here....Hope you don’t get any leaks now!
Looking at your chopping of the rosemary made me think the same as Jim and reminded me that I have a dried out shrub hidden away in the shed for possible dio material.
Yet to try any water products but I’ve been looking into it after watching a few YouTube videos
That Rosemary has the most realistic bark at this scale. Not very long straight sections though. Did it out and tell me what you think to it .
Had time to read this thread more thoroughly John, and I must say how sorry I am for the sad loss of your friend. I apologise for not responding sooner.
Peter, most kind of you and thanks, although we didn't speak or see each other on a regular basis since I retired and he became I'll I'd see him on the Christmas Card run. We'd worked together some years ago and always remained good friends.
His wife and Christine go back to when they were children as their fathers were good fiends.
Sorry but I couldn't tell you Pete as I don't actually have any.
I have their Mr Cement Deluxe which is a slower drying version for when I need to fiddle with the position of something. That doesn't smell too bad to me, certainly no worse than Tamiya extra thin.
Andy as I said further back I've emailed E models, but since then I've ordered some from John, so will let you all know .There is a good video on UTube doing a review of the glue, apparently it's not completely black but more like a wash.
Very like Tamyia extra thin in is drying times . Not sure now if he was comparing it to the quick set version or the normal extra thin .
John .
