Colin,
Just found this, it is certainly a mixture of mediums but you are making a great job of it.

Hi Colin
Great job. Odd that there are plastic and planked areas. I can imagine the hours of work needed to get a decent finish.

Well after a month of filing and sanding and priming this is a good as it’s gonna get still imperfections but I can live with them as filing and sanding them makes no difference so enough time to move on 740866C4-970C-451A-A670-54143E4F5CBA.jpegF228429F-3CAA-462C-A3E4-4B4A3D54BF15.jpegC0FBD0B9-8912-4668-93CF-515CC2C22CE1.jpeg1C76CD8B-5666-4874-9A7C-50949593A6FC.jpegCECF113C-3E9F-41D9-AA19-31573852EE18.jpeg7E1C966B-EA07-4700-8B46-C3DEFBD9BBF4.jpeg

Start of the decking details and 1st parts of the 8.8cm Deck Gun basically just a case of sticking thin strips into place on the various bits of the decking before lightly sanding them smooth then painting them

Ok so here we go with some traditional model building 1st off I finished the 2 guns namely the 8.8cm Deck gun and the machine gun loads of brass pe I hate pe sometimes I think they do just for the sake of it anyway the pictures should show more than the words can tell so here goes
After the pe was glued on with much teeth knashing and swearing etc it was time to paint them basically 2 colours light grey along with dark grey in certain areas they do look quite good even though I do say so myself next we start the bulkhead walls

Regards

Bulkhead assembly so 1st off paint the bulkhead 2 tone upper half white bottom half light grey next you have to drill out all the pin fixing holes for the various control wheels etc which are mounted via the pin through their centres the wheels are painted red on the 1 st Bulkhead and various colours on the 2nd Bulkhead next paint the various bits of pe the required colours before attaching them to the bulkheads some pieces are tiny as can be seen from the picture with the tweezers and my finger basically you just work your way through the instructions adding one piece at a time all the circular gauges indicator dials and handles are all brass pe after all this was attached a considerable amount of touching up was needed to make the bulkheads look presentable

I also added some details to the conning tower at this stage which looks very rough and ready at present but should clean up afterwards also a brass side panel of some sort was also constructed and then painted dark grey don’t know what this does yet as the instructions say save it for later

Just a small update to the build which is getting very intricate with loads of tiny parts and detailed painting with the net result we have loads of separate sub no pun intended sub assemblies which I’ve no idea where they go yet

More interior details being done this time the main engines and associated pipe work and valve control gear including tiny rocker type push and con rods requiring tiny holes to be drilled into the mounting surfaces this is really testing my skills and unsteady hands to the limit at times
As you can see some more tiny pieces which worries me as to the longevity of super glue and these pieces staying attached using this adhesive to stick brass together and onto other materials
Next the engines get painted and detailed along with more interior details

Painting engines and adding more details and general overview of parts built so far
The engines are also painted white overall with the push rods painted black and the main handwheels painted green with the small handwheels painted red
The main valve assembly which is what I call it is grey with black control valves each of them having a pin mounted through their centre which will need shortening to 4mm long before gluing them into their respective holes there are 6 of them in the centre and 2 on the outside also a large brass work structure has also been built purpose at present unknown you are now up to date with where I have go to with this kit

Ok so now move onto more interior details and the start of the periscopes and railings for the conning tower
1st off is another internal bulkhead with numerous bits of pe attached and then painted white then comes a large brass type fixture which I have no idea what it does or goes then we start with another bulkhead adding a copper pipe to one side of it then we come to what I call a valve distribution tree to which most of those tiny valve handles with the pin mounted in the centre go having been painted black
The 2 finished bulkheads are then painted white with additional parts painted various colours as seen in the attached photo
The valve tree is fitted onto the bottom of the bulkhead next the start of the periscopes assembly where you have drill out the holes for the handles and fittings then the periscopes were painted along with something that looks like life belts painted red and grey
Next is the biggest problem of all handrail attachment to the conning tower this took 2 days of fettling and finally I gave up with gluing the 2 separate sections together on the left hand side as it kept breaking apart when being shaped to fit to138538E9-0882-4C84-93B2-CDDBFAF1AC38.jpeg56D0132A-0B0E-4D48-A965-2A452276A8D4.jpegCF5A11EB-5994-4B95-825C-DC1A2F807DE6.jpegFD9B1C35-5AF4-446D-9114-0E30114DB792.jpegA76795A1-A98D-43FE-BFDF-A0FC030F0F34.jpeg7F878415-4D25-4A52-A17D-9751D6D519AD.jpeg33785FA0-2513-4083-961B-283CA870CDD6.jpeg33C016DC-1870-40D5-8013-0BBE0764E63F.jpeg872E141A-2EF4-433A-AEB2-4F9B69635EEB.jpegABE0A327-4CC2-4F2A-8447-9F14C142CB50.jpegC2E1A43F-F86C-47F2-BF0E-C65A313757AE.jpegA39FB890-92ED-40BC-BBF7-1F39DCEED793.jpegDE4962C2-33CF-46F3-BF49-FBEF7F2341CD.jpegD6BFAB4E-801E-4448-B9A6-3998E6BBCD59.jpeg8B55020D-FB91-4062-BA31-CE533539B7FE.jpeg580AE903-E404-4972-A7ED-5A6BC746C0B3.jpeg335D4FBF-C84B-47B6-B71A-241A0CA6077E.jpeg35A42618-A23B-4A97-80E2-E97B5E0EFDBC.jpegDA5ACA21-DFAC-4119-9EF3-DEDD9BC51258.jpeg the holes I drilled into the conning tower so my solution I secured the joints using paper flower petal wire this is ultra thin wire about the thickness of cotton thread so I wrapped the 2 joins with this and the secured the ends with super glue not perfect but better than it constantly breaking

We now come to the marking out for all the external brass work to be added to the port side hull and I finished off the conning tower giving it the final colour it appears in as well as adding extra detail like the red & green navigation lights still got to add the glass covers probably make them from clear sprue cut directly in half make cover for each that way they should match
So after a week of nights I finally have the port side fully brassed strip finished now move onto the starboard which as this includes cutaways should be very different from the full length side
It would appear my photos have come backwards meaning the 1st one should have been the last that way they would have matched by text oh well never mind you should be able to get the gist of it and the tardy appearance of the model will disappear once it’s all painted hiding all those marks etc
