Update! Such a good kit this, I really wanted to ensure that the fuselage was tight so that beautiful smooth appearance would be easy to emulate. A little sanding and fine, no filler required! Also bought some of AKs 3rd gen acrylics to do the paintwork, will see how they work today. 7EB3CAC6-9358-471D-9221-C955C06B66A4.jpeg531B575F-F32F-4C65-B7DB-748461194B97.jpegF1448CA7-35DF-4142-A449-D8D3CAC5E67F.jpegF883E633-8B22-4AD6-B789-81CE17B00F52.jpeg824DEA0F-21C1-489D-B817-70E73C312EAD.jpeg5D3DF7E7-ABDE-4615-A217-DF7D17E7F821.jpeg

Looks a lovely kit russel , nice primer job . Am I right in thinking Airfix have provided mask covers for the wheel wells !? If so then they should be applauded , cheers tony
Hi Tony

At the risk of stepping on Russell's toes, they have indeed.

Also, according the reviews I have read, the mounting points for the suspension in the wheel well are actually also designed to work as a jig to help you construct it it after which it can be removed for painting.

These are a couple of the reasons I really am considering getting this. The reviews for this kit I'll pretty much unfailingly good.

Russell - apologies for butting in! That really is coming on beautifully and that pre-shading looks like it's going to work a treat. Keep up the great work.

Andrew

I like those MASK parts. I just wonder why they didn’t provide one for the cockpit copy too — maybe the designers assumed everyone glues that on before painting?

Therein lies a tale…I was masking the canopy myself but because you have gaps either side it’s quite flimsy and cutting one section I put too much pressure on and snapped it. If I hadn’t, you’re right, it would be glued on now. I am going to have to use the bubble top replacement canopy which isn’t strictly Mk XVI but does appear on the B35. History buffs will notice. But i am also waiting for a masking set now too so as to avoid risk is snapping this one as well.

Great stuff. I hope they continue that with future releases, it’s a worthwhile addition that improves the build experience.

As Andrew points out as well, you use the wing part with the wheel bay as your jig for putting together the undercarriage. Such a good idea, keeps everything true.

cockpit copy
Cockpit copy? I wonder what letters I missed there to cause autocorrect to turn into “copy”. I meant “canopy”.
