thought id share my latest project, being built for a Movies GB somewhere

kit is Anakins Pod Racer from Star Wars Episode 1- The Phantom Menace

im about a week into this so far

big box of bits

engines were a pain to put together......each is made from 4 quarters, impossible to get perfectly round, although of course, now ive done it ive thought of a bodge to help!

base has a relief design which copies the markings on the pod, so sprayed blue, masked and sprayed silver

pod going together

getting there

still need to add the spill air doors and the air scoops

the air scoops have been painted with silver then had the hair spray trick done and topped with a beige colour (actually Vallejo wood).....wanted to try and get the weathered effect that appears in the movie.....had a bit of a strange reaction....the paint 'cracked' on a couple of the scoops.....found out it is all down to surface tension apparently but it sort of adds to the weathered look but i shall make sure the dodgy ones are on the bottom when mounted lol

engines done..........the kit comes with mounts so the air scoops can be in three different positions....wide open, mid and tight.........decided that the port engine would be open and the starboard one in the mid position........the scoops move continually in the race and thought it would look interesting

now i can work on the pod

started on the decal work on the pod......nightmare!!.....and slow going cos theres plenty to apply

the pod has lots of curves and the decals dont like to conform to them........in particular theres a bulge on the front and the decal that goes over it just not settle down despite lashings of micro sol

also the instructions arnt the best

you would think you would put decal number 1 (and its opposite number 7) on first.....specially since they are the ones that go at the front of the stripes..........but 6 and 8 have to go on first so the yellow bits on 1 and 7 over lap!......shame they dont say this on the instructions...........but ive got a plan to bodge round it although i will have to trim a bit off the stripes
