The build phase is now complete. The two guns off the canopy top are in the paint shop with the base. If you’re into plumbing then this is the kit for you, so many pipes!!! The cockpit section isn’t fully on here as there’s painting to do, when it fully locates there are about a dozen pipes that slot into its rear. I also have to add the droid too.

There are a couple of German gas mask canisters on the “wings” and I suppose they’re either Tamiya or Italeri 1:35 scale, or possibly Airfix 1:32. Also some aircraft engines at the wing roots, if you can recognise out what those are, exactly, you probably can also work out the kit they’re from.The front and middle part of a Panther engine deck, and since the lines on your cutting mat are at 1 cm spacings, it’s about 3 cm wide, so probably 1:76 scale. Airfix or Matchbox? Or did Fujimi also have a Panther in that scale?

The front and middle part of a Panther engine deck, and since the lines on your cutting mat are at 1 cm spacings, it’s about 3 cm wide, so probably 1:76 scale. Airfix or Matchbox? Or did Fujimi also have a Panther in that scale?

And the funny thing, from today’s perspective, is that model companies now have to go to a great deal of trouble replicating parts from other models

'Part spotting' is a fun sport in itself, and there are pretty comprehensive lists out there for what went on to what models. As an example, there's a photo of the construction of the Nostromo refinery from Alien where the workbench is covered in Tamiya 1/25 Centurion sprues and boxes. Indeed, you have to remember what models were available when the film was made.And the funny thing, from today’s perspective, is that model companies now have to go to a great deal of trouble replicating parts from other models
When Fine Molds did their Falcon in 1/72 a while back it was fun spotting the now under-sized parts on the hull! We won't go into the 'accuracy' issues of that kit, even though the scale plans they got were from Lucasfilm, so the studio were the ones at fault
The downside of part-spotting now though is some kits have become ultra-rare because they had ONE part used for one particular starfighter, and people wanted a studio-scale (as in, that's the size the original filming model) built absolutely 'authentic'. Even though it's now possible to do a 3D render, or mould a resin copy, it has to be THAT part. 'Well, that will add another two-hundred quid to your model, thank you.' 'But that kit only cost a pound!' 'Yes, in 1976!'(verbatim conversation between buyer and builder!)
Then there's the example of the buyer that wanted a studio-scale TIE fighter 'exactly as in Star Wars,' and complained the pilot figure was simply the Airfix 1/24 harrier pilot painted black. 'But I wanted the pilot like in the film!' In other words, the actor in the suit in the SET, NOT what was in the filming model
