At a loose end one day last week so went for a drive, and ended up at RAF Coningsby, so popped in to have a look at the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight. I'd forgotten that you have to join a guided tour, but there was one starting just 5 minutes after I arrived, so joined that. Tour guide (Chris) was very informative, and took my camera behind the barrier to take a couple of shots of the Hurricane with various panels removed - unfortunately didn't give the camera time to focus so they were mostly scrap!
The Lanc has its tail removed. Looks strange!

Yes Tony, let's hope so. It's certainly nice to see the BBMF planes at ground level and fairly close up. I would have liked to get closer to the Lanc though, and there was a Spitfire between us and the Dakota, but it's a working environment on an active RAF base so I suppose we're lucky to get in at all!
Apparently the best time of year to visit is in the winter, since in the summer the planes are likely to be flying so you won't see them all.

Thanks for the photos Pete

I had the great pleasure in about 1996 when the Lanc was at St Athans having a major overhaul to be let loose by myself in the plane for hours. Day i will not forget and especially remembering the very brave men who served and sadly died.

So many lives , i had the honour to know 3 x bomber boys 2 on lancs and the other Halifax, great guys now sadly passed. Very humble speaking to them, REAL heroes, not sports stars or bloody celebrities
