Hi guys,
This Bf109 in 1/24 scale will be my next project!
It's been waiting for me in the stash for a while now but I wanted to gain some experience with airplanes first before messing with it.

I plan to hang it up to the ceiling (because of it size), so I will build it with the landing gear up and a resin pilot searching for a kill his seat...

Steven_Bf109_24_001.jpg

It's quite a big box, it had a bit of transport-damage but all parts were fine.

I made some Sprue-shots :

A drop-tank is also included...

Engine parts...
Steven_Bf109_24_007.jpg

Extra clear parts for the fuselage as an option...
Steven_Bf109_24_008.jpg

A small box includes the rubber, metal and clear parts.
I read bad things about rubber-tires, I will have the gear retracted so I don't think I'll have much issues with it...

Decals.

I like the drawings in the instructions, all very clean and clear.

I already started working on the cockpit and pilot, but those pictures will follow later (lack of time)

Thanks for reading and kind regards,
Steven

Has it got a full interior, including bits that are normally out of sight? (Like the old Matchbox 1:32 scale aircraft that I have fond memories of :smiling3:) Else I can’t really see the point of the clear fuselage parts.

Instructions show the engine, so guess that answers your question @Jakko

It also has separate engine panels, so you can display the engine without having a clear fuselage if you want. I was thinking of the stuff that’s elsewhere in the fuselage, like the guns and their ammo bins between the engine and the cockpit, and whatever is located in the (probably mostly empty) rear fuselage.

Well it seems only the engine would be visible through the clear-fuselage-parts, there's no radio gear or something like that in the kit...
Steven_Bf109_24_012.jpg

But because those clear-fuselage-parts are using the same mold as the grey-plastic-fuselage it will be very hard to make it look nice,
as this kit has a lots of injector-marks...

The instrument panel is a clear part too, a plastic-sheet with gauges has to be glued behind it, first time I see this.
I painted the base colors on the instrument panel...

I bought this resin 1/24 pilot, he has basic detail but will be good enough for hanging up to the ceiling : ).
After cleaning up I've cut his arm and thumb, re-positioned his arm so he can hold the stick...
Then re-attached his thumb (space left for the stick) and used some filler.
Steven_Bf109_24_015.jpg

Here he got a bit of black and grey primer...
Steven_Bf109_24_016.jpg

This is his cockpit, primer and grey base color are sprayed on...
All parts fitted very well.

And a few more assembled pieces ...
I will do a 'spiral' spinner :thumb2:

Thanks for reading ; )
Kind regards

Looking very good so far Steven. At 1/24 I imagine it's not a small kit and as for hanging it from the ceiling, that brings back childhood memories!!! :smiling3:

Keep up the good work.

So it’s really just a novelty rather than actually useful or interesting, especially given the ejector pin marks.

Another strange one. I would have expected a clear instrument panel with the glass faces of the dials moulded shut, instead of as holes in the part. The one you’re showing there doesn’t seem to have any benefit over an opaque part. If they had moulded the dial glass as part of the panel, you could mask the dials and paint the rest to have realistic-looking instruments.

I had the same thoughts about that Jakko, the clear panel is also rather tick (tickness of the holes), so there's no visual benefit at all.

Hi guys,
Just a small update :
I painted the pilot, he's a bit rough sculpted so it was hard to paint the details but he's good enough to hang up. :smiling6:

I took a few pictures of the face-painting-stage, I started with the eyes and went from dark to light...
Steven_Bf109_24_021.jpg

Then I painted his clothes, I couldn't find a good reference picture of a similar outfit/gear, so I attempted to make it credible enough.
Steven_Bf109_24_022.jpg

That's all for now,
Thanks for reading and kind regards :thumb2:

Very nice. Except that useless clear fuselage - why ? Anyway, pilot chaps face, is it as simple as that, darker shades of skin first, progressively getting lighter ? That seems to be a very effective method.

Yes it's a strange thing that clear fuselage, I think it was ment as a bonus for those who like to scratch build missing parts like a radio etc... But I would like to use it (painted) in the future with the engine to make a 'in the repairshop' dio, don't know yet...

Yes I always try to paint a face like that, some also like to go from light to dark...

Just a small update on the instrument-panel :

I filled the holes of the panel with Micro Kristal Klear.
Steven_Bf109_24_023.jpg

And I got this result when the liquid hardened, it worked pretty good!

Kind regards,

Thanks Peter & Chris :thumb2:

It's been a while since I worked on this model, so here's a small update...

Today I did some more paintwork in the cockpit.
on the backside of the instrument panel (filled with Micro Kristal Klear) I painted the gauges/needles with white.
Then the panel was glued in place...
Steven_Bf109_24_025.jpg

I kept the rest of the fuselages basic.
Steven_Bf109_24_026.jpg

Steven_Bf109_24_027.jpg

The instrument panel was glued in position and the gun-sight was added ...
Steven_Bf109_24_028.jpg

The pilot was put in his seat.
There's room for a parachute under his buttocks, but there won't be anything visible afterwards so I didn't bother...
Steven_Bf109_24_029.jpg

Steven_Bf109_24_030.jpg

The rudder has metal hinges and will be movable. I prefer it's locked in position, so I might sip in some glue later on...
Steven_Bf109_24_031.jpg

After holding my breath for 20 minutes I was able to get the fuselage-halves together with the tail-wheel, rudder and cockpit glued in between.
It wasn't very clear were the cockpit needed to be glued, there were no markings of any kind.
The pilot had a very tight fit, he can't move at all...
Steven_Bf109_24_032.jpg

The fuselage needs to harden first so that's all for now...

Thanks for reading, don't get Corona & kind regards!
