Hey guys,

September is a long way off but I thought I'd start my thread now. :smiling3:

By all accounts none of the Blackbird kits are completely accurate, but this old kit from Italeri is supposedly the best of the bunch.

No doubt I will add some PE to improve things a bit.

That's it for now, see you in September. :smiling3:

Afternoon guys. :smiling3:

I pulled the kit from my stash in preparation for the start of the build tomorrow and thought I'd get the sprue shots out of the way now

Not too difficult, just 2 sprues, the underside of the airframe and some glass.

Then I went and complicated it.

The PE looks fun and includes a replacement cockpit tub. I may have bitten off more than I can chew on this one.

Hi Bob
Not seen one of these iconic aircraft built before so it will be interesting. All the extras you have will up the level of detail no end. One thing I don't like is Italeri's use of black plastic - I find it difficult to work with.

I've never built an Italeri kit before, or one with black plastic, so should be interesting.

I made one of these a long time ago, it makes an impressive model - painting it was a real struggle - it's not actually black, but a deep blue black - and I did it with a brush - so the results were somewhat patchy - should be a doddle with an airbrush...................

Hi Bob, always envied a fellow students large Revell kit in my primary school days. Never got around to buying one till recently got an Academy 1/72 kit. Thought it was a built to death plane on the site so didn't list it. It'll be nice to see you build it and I might just tag along as it's not a big number parts kit. Love the lines and the blue black is sinister looking.

Cheers,
Richard

Will follow this one as I love the aircraft, and with an aftermarket parts count much higher than the original plastic it should look amazing.

Cheers guys. :smiling3:

I hope I can do it justice, I've never worked with PE in 1/72 so must confess to being a little nervous.

So I made a start today by not making a start on the Blackbird :smiling3:

Instead I put the drone together. I'm not including it in the build but I was running around most of the day doing last minute back to school stuff and didn't have time for anything else.

I'm planning on using it to practice the paint job on.
