Here are the pictures of my finished wreck of U 444. She was sunk off the West Coast of Ireland in March 1943. I took the photos at dusk, which gave them a sort of grainy, misty look, which I think makes them look all the more spooky.....

I had thought of removing some of the deck plates, but decided to leave well alone and quit whilst I was ahead!

I have tried to modelled her as I would imagine she might look like deep down in the North Atlantic where very little marine life would be present, deteriation was slow and resting in pitch black silence for 70 odd years.

When along trundles an R.O.V........

I hope you approve of my stab at a deepdown wreck. It's been fun trying to get the model something like I imagine she would look like.

Thanks for looking at the rather too many pictures......

There is a brief build thread for this.

All comments and suggestions which I could incorporate into the next one (if there will be) would be gratefully received.

Cheers all,

Ron

I really liked the build thread Ron, but these pictures bring it to life (in a watery-grave kinda way!)

Maybe the RV or some divers next time?

Or....! A scene showing the U Boat being raised from the depths! Now there's a challenge!

Beautifully done as always Ron! Had you thought of doing the same treatment to your Graf Spee?

Great job Ron. Captured the look and mood of a 70 year old wreck nicely.

Speaking (or is that typing) as a person who has piloted ROV's a few times in the past, I can say with confidence, that the quality of your pictures is just about spot on. Our cameras were very close range and could never have seen the view you show (because we were looking for small things, not big things) but occasionally, we would print pictures for clients, which turned out just like yours. Brilliant job Ron.

Wow, thanks to everyone who has posted such great comments on this model. I appreciate them one and all.

Colin's post reminded me that it's not an R.V. that goes underwater taking pictures, but an R.O.V.....An R.V. is one of those ridiculously huge Rekreeasunal Veehickles often seen over the pond!

So thanks Colin. I've altered that bit...

Thanks again my modelling mates,

Ron
