Hi everyone,
20200629_165219_resized.jpg
The goodies:

Some sprues and many more:

New year, new kit on the bench, anyway for me that is :tongue-out3:
Between the two runs totalling 35km (one for each level I’ve achieved today) I made a start on her:
20200630_182928_resized.jpg
One complete engine is supplied, which I decided not to use now as one open one doesn’t fit the finish plan I have for her, maybe the next one:thinking:
And a start on the wings interiors:
20200630_182935_resized.jpg
Tested the fuselage too and a very good fit, neat work Zvezda:thumb2::thumb2:
Instructions start with the engine, then wings and later the fuselage, will deviate from that;)

Interesting story behind the plane too, designed by a guy in prison and later released by Stalin and even allowed to have his name added to the plane.

With my two weeks off, this’ll be a nice one to fill the void till the BoB GB:smiling:

Thanks for looking in.
Fernando

Fernando,
I made the Zvezda version at the beginning of 2018 - it's a very nice, well fitting model I left one engine uncowled, it's quite an impressive model ( I bought the Sukhoi Su-2 afterwards - still in the stash ). The 1/48 Zvezda planes are all pretty good - the only one I haven't looked at is the BF-109...........................

Excellent choice fernando , i remember daves build and its a superb kit . Zvezda and ICM are really putting out some great kits lately ( still no one listening to my suggestions for a 1/32 la5 / 7 though )

Oh yeah, mine has parts straight from Russia, they didn’t even try to give it separate packaging for the sprues.
Well-fitting indeed for the most parts, don’t get any paint or excess glue in or the parts won’t fit, the slats on mine were a bit oversized but that wasn’t a problem.
Will keep an eye out for more of Zvezda :thumb2:

Thanks Tony, with the extra Eduard etch makes it a bit more fiddly to build but it has many glass to see through so the extra effort will be worth it:cool::thumb2:

Evening all,

Spent the last week since the start getting the wings together and filling up the fuselage with bits:smiling4:
Wings took more time than anticipated with the leading edge slats being a bit too big and cleaning up all the joins on the on the big bits:
20200707_180153_resized_1.jpg
Found a way to keep the landing gear out of the wells for easy painting and weathering after the main work, which is my preferred way:
20200707_180132_resized_1.jpg
Instructions tell you to build it in before the nacelles, but sometimes paint creeps in during airbrushing and will ruin the carefully painted and weathered wells:rolling:

Cobbled a plan together for building and painting the interior, most bits were glued in save some subassemblies and all got a base coat from the AB.
Detail painting, adding the etch, last bits and weathering were the next steps resulting in this:

With the many clear bits, some effort had to be put to the insides:smiling6:

Most covered up now, on to some putty and sanding:

Thanks for looking in.

Thanks Jim, many fiddly bits and construction for some of the sub-assemblies but when you’ve painted and weathered it all the effort shows.
If you ever want a Pe-2 kit, this one or the original Zvezda is highly recommended :thumb2:

Evening,

Just a small update this time, even though I have the week off its slow going, the kit is a fiddly one at times but the result is rewarding:smiling4:
Starting to look like a proper plane now, wings and tails on:
20200709_091702_resized.jpg
Took a little shaving and scraping but the tails are a nearly perfect fit, had to watch out for not using too much glue and just two 1mm gaps per side had to be filled:
20200709_091730_resized.jpg
Getting more of her stingers on too, the lower gun was an 11 piece affair and when building it one could figure out with the periscope sight how the gunner would be aiming it from a sitting position:

Getting close to the painting stage:nerd:

I missed this nice build. A plane which you don't see all to often being built. Looking good so far. The cockpit looks very neat.

Cheers

Evening all,

Got the last bits on her ready for painting, good thing to have the masks included for all that glass:tongue-out3:

The lower canopy and the gunners skylight had the most fit issues, being a tad too big and with a very small contact area in the fuselage for the glue to stick on.
Might remove the latter for the open variant if it looks offending after the paints have hit:thinking:

Included in the kit was a nice pe semicircle aerial for on top of the turret, had the five piece thing fully aligned glued and when the moment arose to put it on ‘’pling’’ off to my lap and then under my leg resulting in a very flat aerial...:disappointed2:

Various attempts to correct didn’t work out so off it went and then just a single piece of plastic will be there just like the box-art, good thing I had a hour of running to clear the frustration before masking every opening and getting any loose bits ready for the primer coat:
20200712_171429_resized.jpg
Props from the brassin bits were made too, great that Eduard uses a softer resin that is easily cleaned by a knife:

Next stop the paint booth, thanks for looking in.

Nice update. Looking forward to see the paint. Those brassin propellors look like great upgrades indeed, nice detail to them!

Cheers
