Falaise pocket 1944.... 1/35 diorama

Something for the weekend, sir?

The theme for this, my latest go is the infamous Falaise Pocket, so called because a large portion of the German Army were trapped after a pincer movement by Allied forces closed the only available route east after D.Day.....Then the fighter bombers and rocket firing Typhoons came in.

I used the 'Bale out' dio. base for this and substituted the smashed Tiger for an Opel Blitz truck. I bought a set of German Grenadiers and a Tiger tank crew, added some more muck and rubble, the contents of the truck and a bucket and just generally messed about with the figures ect. 'till I got it summat like.

I hope you like this 'cos I now have to put the truck back together again!!!

That's brilliant! Love the scene, and even more, love the photography! Great shots down at "models-eye-view". Makes it really realistic.

Thanks fellas, you have no idea what a terrific buzz I get when I read your nice comments. Try as I might though I can't get the colours as I would like on the pictures, the Tiger is actually Dk. yellow... well sort of!

fantastic storytelling ron as always, the bloke with his head in his hands really sums up their desperate plight .As the others have said ,great composition and photography skills too.Chalk up another triumph for the bucket brigade! cheers mate tony

Nice one Ron-nothing wrong with a bit of recycling & I think the way that you've used the figures is really good. Those old Panzer grenadiers fit well into that scene. There's alot of implied action & movement in the dio, something you don't often see with static displays.

And lots of pics is great in my opinion!

Like the tank commandants desperat "shot" at the attacing air craft....

Love the way you have gotten doan into the scene to take the photos.

One small thing. When you are going to have a truck belly up, remember to sand the tyres down a bit, to make them look worn. (and remove the seam lines).

Thanks for that tip Ian. I honestly thought the 'seam lines' were part of the tread pattern!!................Here's to the learning curve eh!?

The Master speaks and all we sinners are in awe. That is just stunning Ron. There are some amazing diorama builders on here and your work which is always so full of life and emotion must be a great influence to others.

If my contributions on this wonderful forum helps just one 'would be' dioramee to have the confidence to 'ave a go, and others to improve, as we all surely must(I hope!) then what finer reward can there be?

It works both ways though. I have also picked up a bucket full of tips and advise too!!

That's what makes this forum and the great people on it, such a superb site to be a part of....

My harshest critic, the present Mrs. Ron has been at me saying there are not enough pictures of the men on the tank.
