Hi,

This is my first question. I'm not sure if i've put it in the correct place.

I've seen these finishes sprays for models. Matt, gloss, etc. Could someone please explain to me the advantages of these and which one should be used for what model.

Thank you.

PS - will soon have my first photo up! :smiling3:

These are usually clear varnishes which will be the final finish for your model. They serve to seal in and preserve all your hard work on the paintwork, weathering etc and to impart the final look to the surface of the model.

The varnishes come in essentially three varieties. Matt (or Flat) gives a dull,non-reflective finish. Gloss gives a shiney, reflective finish and Satin is somewhere inbetween. The one you choose is entirely dependent on the model. An F1 racing car would be glossy whereas a WW2 bomber would most likely be matt. A late war RAF fighter would probably have a satin finish. As always you need to check references for the model you are finishing.

Cheers
