In the past I have primarily built WW2 warbirds. There have been a few exception, a couple of 1/48 'tests' an Academy Sabre to practise a NMF, another Academy, the 1/48 F4 just because I fancied it, then the 1/32 ZM Skyraider, because I wanted to try a ZM and I love that brutal look....

My stash now just has two WW2 kits, the Tamiya 1/32 Mossie and ZM Raiden. I still plan to build WW2 warbirds but will be looking at new releases and there are a few expected that I fancy, the WNW Lanc, the ZM FW190, the ICM Gladiator for example....

But.. I am now going to really step into the post war period, as you can see below I now have the following in the stash (or on the way...)

From Kitty Hawk the F5E Tiger and OV-10D Bronco
The Trumpeter F/A 18E (I did look for a Kinetic or Academy kit but cannot get my hands on one, hence Trumpy)

Other priority builds I plan are the HKM F4 when it is released, as a FAA bird and, perhaps one day I hope, a Buccaneer to sit alongside it (please HKM.... or someone but not Revell, never Revell or Special Hobby...)

What other post-war aircraft (in 1/32) would people suggest and what kits would you recommend, if available?

I really do not like the look of the latest stealth jets (F35 etc) and am not bothered with them... What else?

How about something like this?

B-52.jpeg

:smiling3:

(That’s a 1/32 scale B-52D with its builder, Lewis Pruneau, from the May 1991 issue of FineScale Modeler magazine.)

Cant say post war without thinking EE lightening buuuuuuuuuuuuuuut the 1/32 scale one up for grabs is a lot of work and serious use of a micro saw..... So maybe not.
Cant go to wrong with a Tamiya Phantom. Pitty they didn't do a British version though. I get the impression that post war and 1/32 scale is a tough market.
If you look into 1/48 though, as I see you are dipping a toe, there are some must haves, Apart from the spook there are a couple of good Jaguars and the Airfix Buccaneer is probably the best out there. (A resin cockpit helps).
Its more a matter of what you want rather than can you get, As for the smaller size, many of the modernish jets in 1/48 are bigger than say a 1/32 Me 109 of even a Spitfire.

The 1/48 were just test pieces really Ian. I am sticking to 1/32. I did think of the Tammy Phantom but with the RR engined HKM one around the corner I decided no.

Other possibilities are a F14 and F15 but I have not yet looked into what is available in 1/32. Tammy perhaps.

I'd love to get my hands on a 1/32 Su-27 Flanker (just got the 1/48HB kit). Would also like to get a 1/32 Tornado GR1. Just watched the final flypast over RAF Lossiemouth today.

3 Tornado GR4 and 1 Hawk from 100 Sqn. Then they were joined for the final flypast by 2 Typhoons from RAF Lossie

Interesting. I am only aware of the Revell 1/32 Tornado so it does not interest me. Another one to hope for from another company.

I have not really thought about Russian aircraft yet and I quite like the idea of a Flogger. Something to look into.

Have a look about Barry. I'm sure Italeri is bringing a 1/32 Tornado out

That would have been about all they ever fly at one time from Lossie
At least four took-off afterwards. The farm i work on is right next door to the camp and we regularly see them taking-off, doing rollers and landing

Those I have seen have built up well. OK you might need to invest in a bit of resin here and there but you are no begginer Barry and I am sure you could put one of them together well.
I have had bad models from several brands but it don't stop me buying others. And lets face it, at the price, if it should go tits up, its not the end of the world.

The Tamy f-16 builds well and is a good looking craft. Get buzzed by them quite a lot, their weekly patrol and the odd express trip to the Baltic when Boris oversteps the mark...Some of the Danish ones have some cool tail art as well!

If you really want a challenge, there's a 1/32 vacform Vulcan you could try. Mind you, it's old so the biggest challenge might be to actually find one!

Just an update. I decided to get the Revell 1/32 Tornado after all, bought via John, excellent service as ever.

It is a Gulf War rendition of a 20 year old tooling delivered to my office today. Taking a quick look it seems better than I usually would expect from Revell. Molds seem cleaner than usual from them, detail OK, instructions better than the awful ones they previously produced and some nice markings. I will give some thought to aftermarket to kick it up a bit.

I was I a bit of a rush when I posted above and I think now is a good time for a round-up of what I am planning.

The Raiden I will leave until MRP release their IJA/IJN colours that I know they have been working on.

I am now thinking that the Kitty Hawk Bronco be my next build.

Then on to the fast jets

Trumpeter F/A 18E
Revell Tornado
Kitty Hawk F5 Tiger

I am eagerly awaiting the HKM F4 Phantom

I want to build a F15 but none of the 1/32 kits I have found appeal to me. So that is still under consideration. Likewise for the F14.

I would love a Buccaneer and just hope someone releases one in 1/32.

Other than those I have no pressing ‘wants’ and by the time I have dealt with those I expect to be adding some new WW2 releases to the stash but if not then a Harrier, F16 or Flanker May find it way into the stash.

My future projects are quite fluid. But i do have a path i would like to follow. If i could find a video on how to actually use Montex masks (other than the cartoon type vid) then it would open up a whole host of Fw190 builds i have planned

But for the time being it is consisting of nightfighter builds and a special build

Likewise Alan , my future projects are always changing ! I decide on what im going to do next from the stash , then i might see a video of a different aircraft ,see one flying or read about one and it all changes ! A couple if years ago I started a ‘ century series jets ‘ build , got the first two done then got sidetracked ( plus the f-102 i had planned for the third wasnt quite right -wrong decals for the case XX wing in the kit) . I suppose my problem is im very eclectic in my choice of subject and scale , i DO have a favoured subject ( soviet aircraft) but it doesnt stop me going off on a tangent as theres so much else i like. I guess im just too easily distracte.... ooh look a pigeon
