Hi guys well yes I’m going to be building the Tamiya Bismarck I the scale 1/350 with all the PE set I can find. I get the model Monday but I won’t receive the upgrade sets for a wee while yet as they are on a boat from Hong Kong ( apparently ?
The upgrade set will include brass barrels for all the main armaments with canvas covers 3 sheets of PE and also wooden decking lus a scale chain for the anchor
I’ve been doing some research and I’m sure the 2x quad 2cm anti aircraft guns cull be updated as in the kit they look like 2 x blocks
I’m not sure which version I’ll be building yet the earlier with black and white stripes up the main body or the version that was in the battle with the British with the camp removed
I also think there must be an upgrade for the 2 x Arado 196 as the floats don’t look that accurate either.
I will confess I am not a Bismarck buff and only get my information from books and ref photos so will be looking for as much assistance as possible with this build when it happens soon

Welll my kit turned up today and I can see lots of fun to be had and a few headaches coming with this build.
I will place spruce pics later
I have also ordered sets to compliment this kit
Upgrading the gun barrels photo etch, even the arado 196 float planes!
The upgrades will include woood decking as well
This will be coming via China so will be a few weeks before I can start this build
As I was looking at the kit my wife says which ships sank her?
I do not have room for the Prince of Wales, King George V, Norfolk, Sheffield, Rodney,Dorcestshire
Thinking that do they all come in 1/350 just curious ?/

I'm looking forward to this Robert.
You are going to have fun masking the wooden deck.

I've not done any ship building since I was still at school. That's an eye watering amount of etch to go on. I will look forward to seeing this one come together.

hi Robert
That is an impressive amount of aftermarket goodies. I'm sure it will be a long project but what a stunner you'll have in the end.

Hi guys the next part to the big Bismarck has arrived today
It’s the Arado 196 in 1/350 scale ( little tiny planes but very detailed for the scale ! You get 6 individual Arado 196 in the kit it’s clear plastic like cockpit canopy plastic but should accept primer and paints no issues. The decals look awesome too in small scale but will I find a swastika that small ( sorry if yet would offend some bug I want my Bismarck to look the true way she did in 1941.
I’m still not ready to build the Bismarck till I get my last part the PE but it’s apparently on the way.

Hi guys I’m needing a little ref help with my prep fir the Bismarck build. I have now received most of my PE frets and my main question is this.
Because the Bismarck kit I have is Scottie Spartan in detail I want to put portholes and hatched on the kit but I only have limited pic ref on where the portholes are ie lower hull etc, so how many portholes will I require and where are the main portholes avd hatches situated. Can anyone suggest where I can obtain a scale drawing/ shipwrights drawing showing the positions of above.

Kind regards

Osprey publish "Anatomy of the ship: The Battleship Bismarck". I have their version of Yamato/Musashi and that one is filled with technical drawings and 3D renders of the ships in their different configurations. The same 3D artist has worked on the Bismarck title so well worth the investment. About 30€ for such a book is a decent price.

Anatomy of the ship are worth the money, I have the one for HMS HOOD it was a great help.
There is a great build on a German forum, what he is doing is mind blowing. If I find the link I'll post in here.

Thanks guys I’ll hit the web and try and find this book. I’ve been looking around at a lot of models of the Biz and some of them are so exquisitely portrayed it seems a damn shame they sunk her she was some beautiful piece of engineering !

If you mean the blast bags just use a bit of putty and do them yourself.

Yes thanks I think that’s wfat they are called they sit on the gun barrel at the point leaving the turret. I think the main guns and secondary armament had them with 1/350 scale I think it would be hard to cater for the smaller 37mm or the 20mm
I have some green puttey that rolled out thin enough should do the trick
Thanks again

So today it starts
The biggest build of a model I've ever done before ( well let's say ships as its my first ever )
I started by getting the seam line that goes from stem to stern on the hull then started the drilling of the portholes on the hull ( quite a few )
I got the Anatomy of the ships by Stephan Draminski which is a lovely book to look through and will give me lots of detailing ideas and accuracy and reference problems that lack on the Tamiya kit ( not having a pop at Tamiya as the kit is really good from what I'm hearing
To drill the portholes I used a 1mm drill piece.
To the PE and extra parts there will be a lot ( as far as I've ever done before ) but to make her look correct, I believe it is only fair to do it justice.
