Colin would you mind posting some photos of them, sure many would love to see them.Thanks.
John
I tried posting some photos but they ended up in the middle of my Hood build so how do you want to play this a new thread in the general chit chat as I see the acquisitions thread appears to be locked for any further additions at least that’s how it seemed to me last time tried

HMS Hood 1/200 Hachette /Amati Wooden kit Build Parts 61-64
All this consists off is 7x 4.5” secondary guns must be 1 missing or 1 too many as 7 seems weird anyway they are all built the same way so issue 61 will illustrate that along with my 1st 2 completed after that it just repeat 5 more times so it’s pointless just posting further mag shots until we reach something different around part 65 where I believe we actually glue the bow piece onto the hull so here come the pictures

HMS Hood 1/200 Hachette /Amati Wooden kit Build Parts 61-62 Correction
Sorry I thought this would conclude at Part 63 but the secondary armament finished at 62
Part 63 is for the Lewis guns construction so here’s the 7x 4” Guns still seems odd to me
You can also see my version of Hachette’s 1/200 deck for the titanic which if you follow their instructions is completely the wrong colours and detail how they could have got this so completely wrong is beyond me don’t they do research

HMS Hood 1/200 Hachette /Amati Wooden kit Build Part 63 The Lewis Guns

So here we are again this time with the Lewis Machine Guns
Really tiny and fiddly to boot as well this made me resort to my helping hands for the 1st time in this build but in the end I used my own as I had more control when placing the pin head sized magazines for the guns
After this came ubiquitous pieces of pe not to bad this time basically a single piece which is bent to form the shoulder pads / rest of the gun and a small wheel is added to the end with a control rod extending from the other wheel the other end
See pictures below which should illustrate this

Regards

Colin

PS

what a twat I forgot to add the gunsights to the Lewis Guns

These are made up of 2 side pieces joined together to form the rocket housings then a small bottom end cap is added before this section is glued onto the main base along with 3 bits of pe some sort of control panel a door and the top of the rocket tube compared to the previous this was a doddle to do the wooden decking you can see is not used at this stage

HMS Hood 1/200 Hachette /Amati Wooden kit Build Part 65-66 Fitting the Bow and pipework

Good afternoon here’s my next update been delayed waiting for epoxy glue to arrive with which to attach the bow piece so here we go
Glued the bow piece into place waited for a day before adding filler to any resulting gaps then another day to let the filler set properly then cleaned it up and proceeded to stage 66 which is the tiny pipes attached to various bulkheads next we will be doing our 1st primer on these bulkheads no doubt that will throw up numerous other filling jobs afterwards anyway here’s stages 65 to 66

HMS Hood 1/200 Hachette /Amati Wooden kit Build Part 67 1st primer

Well I was right after the 1st primer coat I had loads of filling to do there the yellowish areas you can see in the painted surfaces also had some major filling where the rear bulkhead with the word HOOD inscribe on it meets with the hull all in all though not as bad as I expected during the priming I managed to ping on of the the tiny pipes off the bulkhead luckily it landed on the deck and was easily visible
I’m not to worried about the paint on the main decking as we have wooden decking to glue down on top of it and as a by product it should remove all the little gaps at the bottom of the bulkheads once fitted anyway I’m now waiting for the filler to set then sand it down and then add another layer of paint afterwards

Regards

Colin

HMS Hood 1/200 Hachette /Amati Wooden kit Build Part 67 1st set of Decking

Hello again with superstructure resanded and primed then top coated we are now ready for the 1st sets of decking
These were very thin laminate is it coconut bark or similar that they use anyway the bottom line is you have to cut it out as there’s no laser cutting these pieces so with trepidation I made my 1st cut using a model knife brand new blade and steel straight edge I soon gave this up as it was impossible to do curves and besides you have to custom fit the decking to your model necessitating several fittings and cuttings to get an exact fit they have allowed for this by giving you a 3 mm waist border around each piece which you trim to fit your arrangement
With this in mind I resorted to some very fine scissors the type that look like tweezers but have blades instead of pointed tips this allowed me to cut the curves where required
After that it was a case of gluing each section into place there not perfect but hopefully the decking above will conceal most of the errors etc anyway here’s what we have at present you’ll also notice I managed to ping off a inner door during the deck fitting so that will be re glued after the decks have dried and set firm

CHEERS Colin its looking brilliant pity she isnt R/C AN COULD SAIL as when i build my hulls have to get them treated with sandin sealer an painted so the hull dont warp but as yours goin in a glass case i dont suppoce it matters an yes in my opinion looking at your bismark hood was clearly outdated an all ready an old ship an the bismark was brand spankin new no wonder she dint stand a chance against bismark ps im really enjoyin your build keep at it :thumb2: :thumb2: :thumb2: :thumb2:
chris b pps an do you make your own glass cases as they look big an from what ive seen they are fairly exspensive in this size ?

Hi Colin
Really taking shape now. Those last few photos show just how big this model is. Great work on all the fiddly detail parts.

Reply the case the Bismarck is in came from Hachette cost £169.99 + £40.00 for the coffee table it’s stood on checking on various suppliers separate Perspex to do a similar thing come in at around £120.00 and that doesn’t include the base or another coffee table as i like them as support units so you’re looking at about £200.00 per display case either way there is no cheaper alternative other than a wooden one with a clear front panel which would lend itself to a painted background and possibly a foil seascape might try that for the Hood who knows
