HMS Hood 1/200 Hachette /Amati Wooden kit Build Part 69 More Decking pieces and Hose Reels

Good morning this time we have more deck details to add and the hose reels mounted on the various bulkheads not much to add other than anyone building this kit or contemplating building it then I would recommend doing the hose reel holders in parts 40 44 and then jump to this stage ie 69 and fit the hoses into the holders then stick the holders and hoses as one piece in this stage as measuring and cutting them as I had to was a right pia

Regards

Colin

HMS Hood 1/200 Hachette /Amati Wooden kit Build Part 70 Support pillars

Well we’ve reached halfway stage 70 this time it involved painting 3 lengths of wooden poles and cutting them then gluing them onto the deck I didn’t bother adding instructions photos for this section as it was a case of paint the poles then measure off 18.5mm and cut to that length 18 times for the thin ones and 6 for the thick one so here goes making sure each one is level in both planes ie not leaning left or right and not backwards or forwards

HMS Hood 1/200 Hachette /Amati Wooden kit Build Part 71 Front side panels leading to the forecastle part of the ship

Good evening so here’s another small section completed and I was very surprised by the way these 2 deck pieces fitted into place so tight no glue was needed only to secure the outer wall panels in place
I see I have a gap on the starboard side when it’s dry and set I will attend to that with a bit of plastic card or more likely spare brass work

Regards

Hi Colin

Apologies got behind on this. It's coming on very nicely indeed.

I don't think I've come across such a 'hybrid' model in terms of materials before.

I've obviously seen lots of plastic with a heap of PE thrown at it and the odd wooden deck for a plastic kit but never a kit were the wood is such such an integral part of the main structure, with the plastic providing the 'detail'.

It's been very interesting to follow.

Keep up the great work.

HMS Hood 1/200 Hachette /Amati Wooden kit Build Part 72-74 More deck details and finally the next decking layer

Hello again sorry for the sporadic nature of my updates work has dictated this at present anyway here’s where I’m at
So we add some deck detail including what look like lifeboat davits to me along with the 2 side panels built back in issue 47 I think
Next they tell you to add the 5 separate deck pieces to the top of all those upright supports previously installed now if you do it the instruction way you’ll be left with gaps to fill in the uneven joints
So I’ve joined all the pieces together beforehand and strengthened them with thin card strips on the rear which will effectively become the ceiling o n top of the supporting structure this I have 5 good flat perfect no gap joins and the deck just rests on top of the supports with minimum of adjusting required it will be glued into position prior to stage 76 taking place
As always please see attached photos of instructions followed by my actual build

HMS Hood 1/200 Hachette /Amati Wooden kit Build Part 75 next decking layer

So here is the very minor part of issue 75 ie 5 pieces of thin wood and a small brass detail that has to be saved for later
As you can see as mentioned previously I’ve glued all the deck panels together to make one homogenous flat & even piece of decking instead of 5 individuals which I think looked terrible

Hi Colin
She's looking good and huge. Lots of different materials and techniques on this. Filling and sanding the hull will be time consuming but worth it to get a perfectly smooth finish.

HMS Hood 1/200 Hachette /Amati Wooden kit Build Parts 80 to 82 Fitting the centex decking onto the ship

Hello again with the continuing build of HMS Hood this time were adding the Centex deck areas I believe that’s what they are called as it was a special non slip type of surface and was a dark grey from the look of it according to Amati anyway that’s the colour I have used
After this test fitted & any areas that weren’t level were shimmed up to bring them level using thin card on the tops of the structure below before gluing down using pva glue this was were the joins were as this decking was in 6 parts
I also added card bracing along the joins on the underneath to give it more stability so as usual here’s the mags photos followed by my own

Hi Greg
There's a lot in that stage. Adding shims and strengtheners is extra work but well worth doing. Looking very good.

HMS Hood 1/200 Hachette /Amati Wooden kit Build Parts 83 to 85 Adding bulkhead walls to the Centex decking

In this section we are adding bulkhead walls to the Centex decking this involved fitting dozens of tiny buttressing pieces on to the bulkheads before bending them into the correct shapes then adding them to the decking as shown
The hull is also now ready for whatever comes next it is smooth and contoured I would think it would be its 1st proper colour but we still got the the exterior details to be added such as the propeller mountings etc

So here’s the mags my build photos will follow as normal

HMS Hood 1/200 Hachette /Amati Wooden kit Build Parts 86-87 Motor launches

Yep this time were building 5 Motor Launches 3 x25ft & 2x 40ft these were incredibly fiddlesome to build and the end result is far from perfect but it’s the best I’m able to achieve so I’ll live with itC216BF82-A9EC-41DA-BA12-786F3107307C.jpeg6A58B026-B72D-4D06-917F-55BD22A2882B.jpegB83683C7-25F0-4925-9A90-E5A1F1F3AAF5.jpeg58980390-ECD8-4A66-B8BF-F136EC269CA2.jpeg1E131F0C-E813-4E0F-A0A5-BD84139E0888.jpeg9A4E970E-29A7-49A5-8737-D6A7F9B8980C.jpegDE0E9EF9-06C2-46EC-BC6B-141B8AD6A911.jpeg
