Many thanks for your kind words and comments I did forget to mention that each motor launch had to be custom made in that the side panels were too long to fit into the slots on the hulls this necessitated the cutting of each brass panel to size which is why in some cases the fit is not as it should have been
This in turn meant that the bulkheads were now too wide and they to had to be trimmed to fit back into the hull another pia as the net result was loads of scratched off white paint that had to be redone with the panels in place which meant white paint also went onto the buff coloured decking as well which then also had to be redone
And finally just for good measure I redid the grey on the hulls outer sides & then the support stands in white prop shaft and rudder in grey and the propeller blade I left in the brass colour it was made from
As I said they are still not perfect the front windows of the 2x 40ft are completely wrong but due to the side panels being too long in the 1st place I cannot get the windows to fit how they should hence my frustration with this section of the build
Regards
Colin
Next to come more decking & fixtures

Colin,

A long litany of problems and knock on effects. To be honest I'm surprised they didn't find their way into the bin....

Well done for persevering.

HMS Hood 1/200 Hachette /Amati Wooden kit Build Parts 88-90

Ok so after the struggle with the launches in part 88 we don’t do anything except dry fit some decking so with that done we move onto part 89 where we actually fit down the decking which as you can a handy bottle of orange juice F711AC70-91F6-4BCC-BBD4-B1532CDE46DE.jpeg8035822F-32AD-44F4-B8D8-DA68FD8E0A4A.jpegA10F4349-37BE-470A-853C-6B9BF0A0C8DD.jpegFAB36238-2F6A-4B86-8E6A-2F5A0F4E881A.jpeg61042A46-172B-45C0-AA1C-9C8483CD622C.jpegE0F93A9C-F8BD-42A3-9441-3BB5F910ABE7.jpeg63B82C0D-441C-4C0F-9D57-7D63CB9B3C43.jpegB4B21584-5717-42F7-B73A-7F1F362BC3DF.jpeg654F2227-5165-4AA7-A05A-086481018D51.jpegBD06C753-102D-4824-9477-FD3F4A051E57.jpegBFE38285-0A0B-483E-8AD8-54B8FF5C28B1.jpegcame into as a press overnight to ensure the glue had taken again I had fit issues but this might be my fault this time & add a few more deck details onto this
Then part 90 consists of nothing but building the admirals launch which compared to the previous was a pleasure to actually build so here are the requisite photos

HMS Hood 1/200 Hachette /Amati Wooden kit Build Parts 91 Scuppers Template & Bilge Keels

So we’re now back to the main model after several issues building launches
1st off we have to cut out the templates for the scuppers holes to be drilled these are going to have pe afterwards
As you can see the templates are attached with tape only no glue I then used my usb powered mini drill which I think they are brilliant expect for one thing the spin so fast that anything drilled into plastic melts the resulting slag producing a plug which you have to remove afterwards if they could add variable speed control to these they would make pin vices obsolete in my opinion anyway I have drilled the holes for both sides the ship and marked them with a sharpie pen for easy identification

HMS Hood 1/200 Hachette /Amati Wooden kit Build Parts 91 Keel Strips

This next part of the build required me to dig out my set square and a bit of brain power for measuring where the keel strips actually fit
They were chamfered along the bottom edge and also at the ends & then tacked down with ca glue after which I then ran pva along both seems and tape the keels to the hull whilst the glue set
Next again using various rules to measure where the upper keel strips fitted and again chamfered at each end & then tacked down with ca followed by pva which brings us to where we are now

HMS Hood 1/200 Hachette /Amati Wooden kit Build Parts 94 DeGausing Strips

Apologies for lack of entries I do have a excuse Gastroenteritis for a week then recovering for another only just returned to the bench
Parts 92 & 93 were more lifeboat / launches construction same as before so I didn’t bother showing them
Onwards part 94 is the start of the degausing strips if I’m not mistaken I know there’s a lot of controversy over should they be singles or a double I can only go with what the kit has supplied anyway fairly simple process as you can see from the attached photos

HMS Hood 1/200 Hachette /Amati Wooden kit Build Parts 95 -96 More Decking

Hello again so now we come to adding more decking onto the model and then adding details on top of this
One major problem was the rear superstructure already fitted prevented me in sliding the rear decking underneath it as the instructions would have you do it so I had to cut my decking in 2 and custom fit it to the plywood decking afterwards
Thinking about this I reckon once you have all the base decks in place before adding any further details you should glue the wooden planking decking on top of the plywood decks that way you get a continuous flat surface devoid of obstacles with which you can work with will test this out on the Bismarck build after this one
So we eventually got all the decking down and in place with a few bodges ready for more details to be added
Used the good old 2 litre bottles of juice to weigh down the glue overnight before continuing

Regards
Colin

HMS Hood 1/200 Hachette /Amati Wooden kit Build Parts 97-98 yet More Decking

So continuing on from previous post there’s more decking to add and then construct 5 more hose reels along with 2 chimney type vents fairly short and simple this section the gap at the front I’m not too worried about as the turret will conceal this error which as I stated previously could have been avoided by gluing the wooden upper decking onto the plywood before adding additional fixtures and fittings then gluing the planking decking around these

Well we’ve got to 100 on this build and the centenary is pretty boring actually as you can see we stick on the anchor chain guides and a load of tiny eyebolts and mushroom ventilators which I drilled out the holes into the wooden decking cause all the kit wanted was them to be stuck onto the surface only yea ready to snap off at a moments notice at least by drilling them it gives to my way of thinking a much stronger fixing so with that in mind here’s where I’m at on this build

Yet more deck details what I find unbelievable at this time is we are now adding loads of parts to the deck upwards of 200 yet we still haven’t painted the hull stay tuned for that after the next 2 sets of magazine photos

Now we’re building the stand and nameplate which I elected to do Red then carefully sand back the paint of the raised areas to give the brass look to the writing BB8695A8-DC4C-4AAA-9ACE-AFF5F517B40E.jpegEB2B05FE-5D9F-49E1-8C50-15E854C691A8.jpegF7679B33-87A5-4477-B808-E5C8F069DCE1.jpeg022A5C4D-68D7-4283-BEFB-3CA64AB9217C.jpeg134DC84B-C9FF-4B42-ABC2-9A084FA95CF8.jpeg61BB514F-9967-4F89-88FF-5AA1331C8323.jpeg0EF2DCE2-D393-4436-8552-7E598DE82355.jpeg

Another lifeboat which we don’t actually do anything with so after all that and with hull still unpainted there is no mention of it in the instructions despite the fact we are now adding major components onto the deck I said sod it I’m painting the hull see the final set of pictures for the result
After a lot of research I cannot find any reference to Hood having a red anti fouling colour scheme the closest I could find was the one I have used namely a greenish grey for the anti fouling obviously the rubber black dividing line sorry I don’t recall it’s proper name and lastly dark grey for the upper hull etc
I hope I haven’t offended anyone with this colour scheme that I have chosen as I say this is after researching the remaining D forms that still exist unfortunately those from 1940 to 41 are missing for obvious reasons so the actual colour used in the Denmark straits will remain unknown u less something drastic changes as in with HMS Victory

More Deck fittings added I won’t bore you with the detailed instructions on this as they are all the same as before when fitting deck items suffice to say I’ve added around 200 separate pieces from ventilators tool & weapons cabinets bollards and fairleads see the pictures of the model for these additions
You now have to be very careful how you handle the model for fear of snapping something off and still they don’t mention painting the hull which is ridiculous given the amount of deck detail added which is why I painted mine already
