Hobby Boss 1/18 Huey

Anyone else tried this kit, recently unboxed and already can see that windows don’t fit, disappointing given the cost of the kit.

Any tips from anyone on how to resolve?

Quite strange as it's a 2020 new tool , Could you show us a picture of the problem area(s)?

I hope this is clear, the ”window” is too big for the airframe. I can’t (and don’t want to) alter the airframe as it has the fake rivets around the frame. Looks like I have a lot of removing of material from the clear part.

Blimey, that’s miles out! Just to double check, you don’t have the parts Transposed on the fuselage halves do you? I very much doubt you have, but it’s worth a double check. If not, I think a complaint to the manufacturer is in order, because that doesn’t seem to be marketable quality to me.

Definitely the the right (right) window, it is miles out, as is the windscreen ☹

That's a serious issue indeed for a 1/18 scale model!
Definitely contact Hobby Boss with pictures of those clear parts

I was searching about this model, and this might explain the problem :

... these are the ex-21st Century Toys prebuilts/prepainted that were sold in Wal-Mart and Toys r Us about 15 years ago. For about $30-40 for a huge prebuilt model. These are mostly screwed together. No they are not Tamiya quality and are not superdetailed and were not made to be, they were "made to a price point" set by Wal-Mart and other retailers ...

It was like something from the Krypton Factor, but I worked out with a lot of patience and some gentle pressure you can get it to pop in ... so I’ve just ‘pledged’ the first window for a good sheen

Terrified it would cause stress marks, but I think it should be ok

Just a random thought, but would it help to reduce any potential stress marks by dipping the affected area into a bowl of hot water, ( when the 'window' is in its place. ) this might get the plastic to expand a slight bit, and remove a bit of the tension...

Hi Rich
If the windows need pressure to click into place they may distort the fuselage halves. I would put the windows in. tape in if necessary, and then dry fit the fuselage together just to check the fit is still ok.

Just to show the result (dry fit only) does require some ‘persuasion’ but can get it to fit.
