Hi James
looking good mate. Nice finish on the tank engine.
I would go with 0.5 wire as your maximum for handrails....that is still two inches thick in real life...anything thicker stands out too much, especially under paint.
By the way, as I’m sure you know, the tank loco is an LNER Gresley N2 0-6-2 suburban tank, not a Jinty ;)

Oh dear, I wasn't aware of this, kind of traumatised my paint scheme in that case, though I have found a photo of a BR one, all be it black and white. I wanted to do it BR green and black so have to have a think learn something new ever day though!
Have also ordered 0.5mm wore. Not quite sure why I didn't just do the maths and work out the required thickness, laziness on my part I think

9522 wore LNER Apple green if you are so inclined! Otherwise all over black in both LNER and BR days I think....
LNER details here.....
As to the maths,I scratchbuilt loads in this scale back in the day and used to use 0.35 mm wire for handrails....1/76.2 (this scale) is 4 mm to the foot, so 1 mm is three inches. I used to think of plastic card as 3/4”, 1 1/2” and 3” for 10, 20, and 40 thou....it just became a way of thinking really....

Well I have finally got round to continuing these bodies.
As for this one popped on some silvertay brass smoke deflectors and redid the rails with 0.4mmwire (closest I had to 0.35mm).
Looks ok now it's primed. This one is to be City of Birmingham in Brunswick green BR livery.

Thanks for looking.

Meant to spray buffer beams today but ended up going off at a tangent. Unfortunately it's had to be pre nationalisation (I think) numbering as I lost the nationalised plate on the floor while trying to apply.

Anyway need a bit of touch up black as I applied masking tape over PE sections on deflectors without varnishing first so it didn't fare well.

Not perfect but it's ok. Will probably finish in a satin varnish.
Anyway, time for F1 qualifying!

Well progress and hurdles today. Thought I had completed the loco body except varnish and then I started researching.
It annoyed me that I messed up the name plate and have had to use 6235 instead of post nationalisation 46235. This was compounded when I found the loco never existed how I have done it.
So as a result I have ordered another set of decals an a front name board and will make the appropriate adjustments.

Other bits photographed. Other duchess body I an not at all happy with and am deciding what to do with it currently.

On a other note the two tenders I have photographed. Both are hornby but they are different. I think the left is a Montrose tender and the right is an Athol tender, am I correct?

Thanks in advance.

James

Hi James
I do not know too much about LMS motive power, but I would say they are both Coronation class engine tenders. One is an earlier tinplate version and one a later mazak casting. This should tell you which tender model comes from which engine model. Neither is from a streamlined engine so they should suit all rebuilt non streamlined engines. Not sure when the models of Duchess of Montrose and Duchess of Athol were made, so can’t help with which goes with what.
Sorry

So another batch has arrived.
Decided to give these a go with my friends vapour blasting unit and had great results, a lot better than the paint stripper was.

Did a bit more on the City of Birmingham today. Have done the loco in a satin varnish and save another coat or two it's complete.
The tender was a challenge. I didn't have a tender lining decal so made one out of what I had. Fiddly and took a couple of hours but not displeased with the final result.
Other side of the tender to go and a coat of varnish and remove the masking tape and that's that one done and off to eBay for a new home.

Been a good project really to improve all round skills and also make something that was ina sorry state hopefully fit for a new home and a new lease of life.
