Today saw one of Guernsey's unique 'traditions' which. i take part in - the first ormering tide of the year!

the first what you ask?

The ormer is a single shelled molusc found around the low water mark and can only be collected on the day of each Full and New Moons plus the 2 following days, in the months of January to April.

today was the first ormering tide of thd year so with my brother went off to the beach, braving the cold weather and cold sea water. Unfortunatelg they are found on the underside of boulders so there is a lot of turning stones and boulders to get them.

i just get my hands and arms wet, but some go chest deep in the sea to get bigger catches - far too cold for me!

not the best catch - 7 for me and 10 for my brother but not bad.

I forgot to add - about 10 years ago while ormering my brother found a shell - not a sea shell, but a 10.5cm German shell!
