Hi all
I was going to build a Tiger but there seem to be a lot of big pussy cats already so I thought I'd do something a bit different. However as it's a nice long GB I still might get the Tiger in after this.

I would have preferred the newer Revell kit but this was very cheap on an ebay auction and reviews say it is not too bad. The only extras I'll use are a set of canopy masks and some PE to improve the interior.

I'll put up sprue shots when I actually start.

There seem to be a few wing fold kits for the Revell Gannet but the only one for the Trumpeter kit is from Alley Cat Models. It is expensive, twice the price I paid for the kit. Trouble is I'm not sure how things are with Alley Cat at the moment. There seems to be a bit of a problem with supply. I have contacted them but got no reply. I am loath to send them an order if there are difficulties. Any info would be much appreciated.

I'm also in Jim.
I see from their web site he had been ill and was hoping to get back to full strength, this was in September.
Always a worry when you get no reply from a site. Hope you do get a reply.

Jim,
nice to see the menagerie increasing! I made the Sword Gannet AEW earlier this year, and have both of the Revell new Gannet Boxings ( AS & Trainer ), and the Airwaves wingfold set to go with one of them. I don't know if that could be adapted to go with the Trumpy model. In the Revell model, it's generally just cutting along panel lines, and capping with the PE bits - I suppose it depends on how accurately Trumpeter & Revell moulded the wings!
The Revell models have a nicely detailed weapons bay - bit they supply b****r all to go in it!
Following with interest

I like the Gannet - like the Shackleton, it's so weird it's attractive.

Hardly a plane of elegance - the AEW Version by Sword

Note the prop under the tail - even though I added a lot of weight, it's a serial tail sitter!!!

Thanks guys. I'll get a start after the weekend.
I do remember the Monty Python but thanks Peter for the link. It's still funny after all this time :smiling:
Dave - I hope mine turns out as nicely as yours and thanks for the heads up regarding the tail sitting. Weight will be added :thumb2:

Hi Jim, will be watching closely as I have the same kit in the stash. Been wanting to build it but had to do something on the ground for a change. Good choice though.

Like some would say its something only a mother could love. :smiling6:

Cheers,
Richard

Hi all
With my helicopter painting well on I can make a start on this bird.
Sprue shots. Not that many parts. Look crisp with nice detail but perhaps rather simplified.

Bits for the two cockpits. The coloured PE set will hopefully improve them.

...and all primed.

I would have liked to have assembled more before painting but that would make adding the PE awkward.

Thanks for looking
Jim

I'll be tagging along on this one. As said not the prettiest of aircraft but it has something about it.
I hope that your canopies fit. My 1/48 scale from Classic Air Frames is sitting in the box of doom (still).

Hi Jim, the parts are few...my kind of build. Will take out the box and smell the plastic, resist the urge to build and put it back. :smiling6: You'll need a ton of weights as Dave has mentioned and loads of space to fit them in. Remember it's never too much...just pile it in.

Cheers,
Richard
