Lamborghini Countach 1/18

I've a few 1/18 scale cars in my collection, some bought new, others bought as second hand ex display models in their original boxes. Now and again the odd one comes along on Ebay or wherever that's a bit battered, a bit 'well played with' and in need of restoration. This was one such model, bought as a complete car but tatty around the edges for a couple of quid.

After stripping the whole thing down all the parts were then washed and cleaned in soapy water and put to one side. The main body was thoroughly sanded down with 120 grit, then fine wet sanded with 800 grit paper, before being primed with Halfords grey primer -car spray paint, in the rattle cans. Once dry it was given another fine sanding to remove any blemishes or imperfections. Deciding on the colour was easy, I wanted it to look like the metallic blue one James May drove on Top Gear once, and the nearest colour I could find was Vauxhall Arden Blue. After a couple of carefully applied coats it was then finished off with a couple of coats of clear lacquer.

All the interior parts; the dash, seats, door cards and interior tray, were then painted using Humbrol matt 103, a light cream to replicate the cream interior of the real car. The rest of the center body, the bit everything else fits onto was painted matt black.

For the engine I downloaded a couple of pictures of a real Countach V12 and copied the colours onto the model engine.

A few little extra touches, like the correct colours for the rear lights, the front side indicators and number plates (albeit blank ones for now, I'm about to make some proper lettered ones with some new techniques learned from this very site) were added and it was finished.

Hope you like!

What a lovely job and gives the car a whole new lease of life. Also good to see you are getting the details a lot more accurate than the original so a far better model than a brand new one.

A nice paintjob, really makes a difference compared to the 'as bought' shots.
