Lancia 037 with a big difference

This is my new project.

I have been inspired by the likes of Propeller, Scratch Built, Canister and other to do this.

I like building old rally cars but wanted to do something different and in a big scale.

You can get a Lancia Stratos in 1/12th but I did not want to do one of those.

So I started thinking about Tamiyas 1/10th scale 037 remote control car.

I won a car body on Japanese EBay with a decal sheet.

Then started to get info together (see photo)

I got books, drawings, a copy of the Homologation Papers and lots of photos.

This is one of the great things about the internet, you can find so much info.

Anyway my plan is to build a 1/10th scale Lancia 037 with opening rear, drivers door and the front to come off.

I will be using plastic, resin, fibre glass and vacuum forming parts to build it, will also be having some photo etched parts made.

I enjoyed building lots of scratch parts for my MK2 Escort so I thought why not.

If you see me doing something and you have a better way please say as I’m new to this.

I started by filling the holes that should not be there.

Then started cutting the vents in the rear bumper.

Wow, thats a big build. I`ve bought a 1/43 kit version of this car with martini decals.

I`ll be watching this thread with anticipation!

This plastic was so thick.

Next the drivers door and engine cover at the rear to come off, fingers crossed.

Still been working on the floor.

I'm building some parts in wood as i'm going to have it vacuum formed.

I will be building a vacuum forming table but I do not want to hold up the build so i'm sending it off for someone to do.

I have to take most of the details from the 1/24th model amd photos I have.

Been waiting 3 weeks for this to be vacuum formed by someone on Ebay.

They took my master.

And got this back

But now I have it I'm pleased.

I can now carry on with the build.

Still working on the back panel and started on the rear frame.

Added a brass rod for strength in the frame.

still lots to do, but up to here so far.

Still working on the frame.

Lots of work will have to go into this.

Also made some weld marks, pleased how they came out.

Made a frame up to help with the other tubes.

Have to make sure all is ok before I glue it.
