Does anyone know where a person can purchase lead wire suitable for a 1/72 diorama? I see people using it on YouTube all the time but I do not know where they get the stuff. Thank you -- Steve

Hi Steven
Look for fishing fly tying suppliers. it’s on Amazon as well....comes in all sorts of diameters, and even flat ribbon.

Steven,

Out of curiosity, what diameter do you require?

Paul.

If you want to order from the US this is a great site for tools and supplies

What is the thinest wire that is available out there? I've seen some down to 0.1mm. But is there thinner?

Someone told me that you can get very thin wire from USB cables...if you have any lying around maybe should check it out. I'm going to look for them now.

Cheers,
Richard

This place seems to do the thinnest out there, does a wire that goes down to 0.004mm : https://luma-metall.com

edit: I realise its not lead wire

Not bothered if its lead or not. As long as i can bend it into different shapes. I try and make wiring looms for aircraft so really thin is best

I’m guessing it’s not gonna be cheap though, I checked the insides of an old computer monitor cable (I think it was an old vga to hdmi cable) and the cables inside are 0.25mm with out the insulation on them. I’d expect that usb cables will be around the same dimensions

Hi Alan. Not heard of it until I looked it up. It’s ductile, so should mould ok, but is gold plated so might not take paint that well. In scale it’s quite thin mind, so could be too fine for your proposed application....

Thin is good. Bundled together i think it would make very nice wire looms

At 1/32 each wire would be 1.6 mm thick. That’s like bell wire Alan. Pretty fine for aircraft application, especially military use.

Yep, but Uschi rigging is much easier to handle.....100m would do an awful lot of aircraft.......
