Got the undersides painted yesterday , ready for masking now and the tricky top camo. The top Is a sand background with squiggly green patches , haven’t decided if its going to be easier to do the green overall first then mask off the patches or do the sand first and hand paint the green . It doesn’t really matter either way as the hind used masks in real life so the camo is all hard edged . 5409C4FD-E056-42DF-A2D5-ED557C6FC61C.jpeg

Decided to go with all over green and mask off the squiggles then apply the sand yellow. Here it is after the green , the masking of the stub wings and pylons was a bugger though , I’m expecting to have a bit of touching up to do when it’s unmasked . 2FF11C8D-C5FE-41AD-AD1F-7D7CE54C5E55.jpeg1DE15B22-088A-456E-A8A1-7F522CD13F14.jpeg

Hi Tony
A lot of very skilled, patient work has gone into getting to the paint stage. That canopy glazing was a trial and I hope the masking works ok. The scratched extra detail raises this to another level.

Masked up and got the yellow on ( Tamiya xf60) . The masks were cut from some extra wide 40 mm tape which I stuck onto some adhesive label backing paper I saved . This means I can mark it with a pencil , cut it out with scissors and then peel it off and apply to the model. Some tricky shapes but eventually I got it all done . I think there may be some touching up but hopefully not too much , I sprayed the XF 60 quite dry so as to minimise the chance of any creeping under the tape edges. We’ll have to see tomorrow . Unmasked this morning and pleasantly surprised to see I need hardly any touch ups , result! The paintwork on Hinds usually faded quite badly so next step is a light misting with either a pale beige or white to knock the severity of the colours back and soften the edges of the camo slightly . 83072EDC-46B2-4C12-88EF-B04D2450DCB7.jpegBFCA7403-45F1-41A7-BFBB-5FE9E53795F0.jpegD0D6E63A-D464-4846-821A-AE182AB7792A.jpeg

Its now had a coat of klear and the decals applied. The exhausts had a big gap round the edge which on the real thing is covered by a metal ring so a couple of off centre rings were cut from tamiya tape and sprayed silver . These were stuck on and will get sealed in .Next step is a matt coat then I can see about toning the paintwork down a bit . The paint on most Hinds faded quite a bit so im going to give it a misting with some thinned beige . Meantime ive been painting the rotor head and blades and tail rotors , and getting the weapons painted.519F7783-A487-46D0-B930-A67AFCABD9BE.jpeg1AF10C72-7432-45DF-BD65-3AE31EDE7F0D.jpeg49796A7C-FC9B-49C1-8CDF-19D53016659E.jpegF43DEB6F-4107-4A8C-963F-75761C9213D3.jpeg

It’s now had a misting with very thin desert yellow to tone the camo down a bit . I’ve fitted the tail rotor and tail planes too a given it a bit of exhaust staining . I can take off the masks tomorrow and we’ll see if the canopy fix worked .Its all little bits now but these take the most time, 001CE09C-63B8-4405-B0CA-D18DEB82BB95.jpegB1573283-ED44-4D7C-AF05-D026A83DF5F2.jpeg21E0CB43-700B-4824-9CD8-76CE55C0E277.jpeg

Took off the masking today and thankfully it doesn't look too bad . I took off the pilots door as this had only been temporarily attached and the areas around both the doors need a bit of touching up and neatening . The canopies will also be getting a tidy up round the frame edges . The main rotors have now been finished , black underneath , green on top , yellow tip warnings on the undersides and bare metal leading edge de icing strips .8F99028C-9DE4-472A-B225-18871497EF9E.jpeg82254109-4788-4A5E-BDDF-85683286F410.jpeg5F48BE4A-65CB-4825-8EDE-8DD0CEDCA289.jpegE38845E9-D3AE-4180-B0D0-EAFF31B49578.jpeg5A78FC24-786F-4E80-B9C0-2EED187C52C2.jpeg
