Thanks Colin, Joe, John and Steve,

You'll be surprised at how much can be hidden in 1/72 without super detailing. For the holes I referenced from images off the internet and from Wingnut instruction sheet borrowed from a friend. CA was removed with a sharp blade, first cutting around the strut and then chipping with a chisel motion. The CA will lift off because of the paint. Then I repaint any base paint that has been chipped off and blasting matt varnish over the affected area with the airbrush. Actually a swipe with a paint brush loaded with matt varnish will do the trick too.

Kindly close your mouths for the next set of images as flies are prevalent in these parts.:smiling6:

I warned you...some decapitation of Preiser figures were made to achieve the pose and look of WW1 British pilots and a civillian photographer from a Preiser Luftwaffe set.

574764.jpg574765.jpg

Initial putty application. This had to be worked in sections or as the amount of putty I had mixed.

575787.jpg575788.jpg

Slowly it's teased and blended onto the plastic figure creating folds and cuts.

575789.jpg575790.jpg

Stippling was done for the sheeps wool collar of the flight suite. Goggles are from plastic rod...

576136.jpg576137.jpg

Suitable arms were found for the officer and his cap remodelled to represent the stiffer higher British version.

576138.jpg576531.jpg576532.jpg576534.jpg

I gave them pipes made from rod and plastic strip.

576535.jpg576736.jpg

Putty for the long coat was teased and wrapped over the figure. The collars were added separately. Sleeves as well.

578054.jpg578055.jpg

My high tech tool I used for this purpose. :tongue-out3:

578056.jpg578339.jpg

With a little blob of putty for a cap badge applied it was time for priming.

Cheers,
Richard

Thanks Steve, they were my second venture into Preiser figures after the Helldiver dio. Really nice plastic to work with and lots of optional limbs to work with.

Cheers,
Richard

Fantastic work on the figures Richard, not to mention the build itself. Looking forward to more updates now I've caught up.

Thanks guys, Fernando, Ian, Jim and John and without further ado the painting begins...

578343.jpg

They had to be blackened first with primer and some highlights.

579269.jpg

First base layer of paints on. Working this way helps in defining areas to concentrate on as I progress.

605906.jpg

My first foray with Vallejo gave me a shock as some of the colours dried gloss...later on I tackled that problem.

605908.jpg

Bit by bit I worked on the highlights and tones of the individual parts starting with the flesh tones... then working the leather jacket and boots and finally the uniform.

607154.jpg607155.jpg607156.jpg607157.jpg

A blast of matt varnish took care of the shine as well as some of the colour shades under the lighting but later you will see that it turns out ok.

607346.jpg607347.jpg607348.jpg607349.jpg

Next will be the observer/gunner...

Cheers,
Richard

Hi,
The camera construction was very enjoyable. at first I had to refer to references from the internet about cameras during that era. Interestingly professional photographers nowadays still use the bellows for large print photography except the plates have been replaced with digital cartridges.

574768.jpg574769.jpgThese were good enough to work from.
574766.jpg

Above was my rough sketch for a scale plan and below were the prepared components for assembly...

574767.jpg574801.jpg

Putty helped with the sculpting for the bellows.

574802.jpg575173.jpg

Always checking against the figure for scale.

576533.jpg

The shroud was made with flattened two part putty and attached with the help of a tooth pick and teased into shape.

579065.jpg

I attached the assembly with blu tac hanging at an angle to let gravity do the rest as the putty cured. The angle was to create flow blown by the breeze.

579066.jpg579268.jpg

Primed with black and the wood parts with yellow.

583667.jpg583668.jpg

Brass and silver for the metallic parts were brushed on.

583669.jpg

And finally a coat of varnish to seal it all in.

After the camera and figures were completed it was time to fill the base with the composition. I took a lot of pictures. This batch does not show the added rigging attaching the rudder pedals to the rudder.

On this last picture I have added something to create motion. For those of you seeing this for the first time kindly guess what it is. :smiling6:

Lots more pictures coming...

Thanks Jim, working on 1/72 scale has opened up another scale in dio making for me as space is becoming less for my displays. It's either this or switching to just figure painting.

Cheers,
Richard

That is just so jaw dropping Richard. Luv it a lot. The workmanship is stunning and at such a small scale. Certainly one of my favourites of yours. Well done mate
