Eric Clutton will be best remembered for his tiny Sharkface design, which with a wingspan of small proportions and powered with a small disel running flat out became a legend in aeromodelling history, today the modern micro radio gear would be ideal in this design.

Eric wanted a no fuss fun model that was both cheap and easy to build and fly,a practical person his skills extended to designing a practical small real aeroplane called 'Fred' this stood fo Flying-Runabout-Experimental-Design and took the homebuilt aircraft with a storm as it appeared at the Popular flying association rally at Sywell one year.

The Fred was a practical and above all safe alternative to the well known Flying Flea or Pou-De-Ciel which was built by the hundred in back rooms and warehouses throughout the world, where this left off the Fred carried on.

Eric Clttons partner in crime was a chap called Sherry a cartoonist from the Stoke on trent area, the Fred made its initial first flight from the old aerodrome at Meir.

Having been highly dis-illusioned with the way things were going in Britain Clutton uprooted, crated up his belongings including his models and beloved Fred, and went to live in America where he has never looked back, the last time that I heard he was busy importing or making diesel model fuel and promoting the smelly but evocative model diesel engine which was having a mini comeback at that time.

To this end I award him a pioneer status here, having promoted the sheer fun of flying to everyone he met.
