The North American P-51 Mustang needs no introduction as one of the classic American fighters of World War 2,I think it s true to say that more kits have been produced of this aeroplane than almost any other type.

One kit that stands out amongst the rest is the Byron Originals beauty, however as Byron stopped manufacturing kits and went over solely to making fuels this could be difficult to come by,however there are plenty of other current kits available to try your hand at this fine flyer.

One tip is that if you make her with retracts then ensure there is enough strength around the wheel well area,a lot of P-51 models that I have seen in use suffer damage around this critical area due to the undercarriage ripping away literally in an heavy landing, the secret is to face the area with some hardwood and ensure the retracts are bolted solidly to this false spar, the spar should in turn be well anchored as well.

There are also scores of great colour schemes to paint your Mustang in and experiment with silver foil metallised finishes over a balsa structure.
