If there is one aeroplane guaranteed to evoke memories of high speed flights in the thirties, then the Mew Gull must be top of the list, flown with great success by that doyen Alex Henshaw ( read 'Flight of the Mew Gull' and 'Sigh for a Merlin' by same author) as a scale team racer for both control line and radio this would make a splendid subject.

The very neat lines and compactness all add to the charm of this aeroplane and in view of this I am surprised more modellers have not tackled her as a scale subject.

Research the various cockpit canopies used over the years to get the right one for your model, but I still like the original low contour version which has more character and clean lines.

There was a nice example on display at the recent Midland Model Engineering Exhibition. Pictures on www.modelboatmayhem.co.uk. I`d like to see it fly, classic UK racer. Not so brutal as contemporary American racers. Touch of class imho.
