Starting a new project, thought I would have a go at a boat this time.
Revell 1/72 Patrol Torpedo Boat PT109, JFKs command in WWll.
Also having aquired myself a second hand Airbrush, it’s going to be my first attempt at using one.
Again long time since last modelling, learnt a lot doing the RAF SAR Sea King, so hopefully will correct all mistakes.

Hey Steve.
I have moved this to the appropriate section for boat builds for you and given it a title to boot.

Ok first time at airbrushing, set in up and tried on paper, no problem.
Got hull and deck ready to spray, started, no paint.
Stripped gun down and triple cleaned it, filled with paint, all ok.
Photo is 2 coats, I can’t see anything wrong but if you guys can don’t hesitate to tell.
All advice welcome.

Hi Steve
This looks an interesting build. Well done with your first go with the airbrush. Airbrushes can be frustrating things at times.
Best to give multiple, thin coats. My only observation is on the deck, about 2/3rds down from the pointy end on the left, there appears to be a hair in the paint. No problem, remove hair, sand gently if necessary and respray that area.
Look forward to the next update.
Jim

It looks OK but I think you have a hair or two in the paint...
Also might be going at it a bit heavy. Four thin passes is better than two heavy ones.

Yes there is a hair on it, hopefully take care of that later.
One question please, got to paint the lower hull Red, how long before I can mask up the green, 24 hrs?
Cheers Steve.

What paint did you use?

Always a safer bet to leave it 24 hours before masking on new paint. BIG difference between dry and cured also if you have primed or not.

Hi Steve
Definitely leave 24hrs+. Ordinary, decorators masking tape is very sticky and not really suitable for masking models. Proper model tape is better. You can take a bit of the tackiness off the tape by pressing it onto your bench or something before using it. Your paint looks a little heavy, as Ian said, so the longer the better. Also if you didn't use a primer first the paint may be more inclined to lift.
The main thing is have a go and enjoy learning along the way. Everyone on this forum was a beginner once and everyone is still learning.

Well it’s complete. Not 100% happy with it, but saying that I’ve learnt hell of a lot from completing this model.
Unfortunately quite a few breakages from me.
80% happy with the airbrush work, so as it’s the first one pleased with it. Going to try and avoid red paint in future.
Did enjoy making the model, but wish I had of left it till later.
I had to improvise on somethings that I misunderstood, which was probably down to tiredness, another lesson learnt.
Got some small cheap models of off eBay to drill, stick, spray, file, sand and fill to keep me going and learning.
Then onto the next project.
Thanks for all the help and advice.

Hi Steve
That looks pretty good. You have every reason to be happy. All that you have learned is ready to take on to your next model.

Looks fine to me Steve. You should be pleased with it. As Jim says, the experience will be in good stead when you move on to the next one. After all, actually building something is the only real way to learn in this hobby :thumb2:

Steve, that has come out really well.
Top marks!

We all keep learning until we goes 'Toes up' Anyone who implies they know it all are best avoided.

As Jim writes "All that you have learned is ready to take on to your next model." Wise and true words.

Here's to your next model.

Ron
