Hi Guys

I promise not to be a new member who harks back to MilMod, but this is a bot of a 'cross over' bust.

MM had. Group build commemorating the RAF 100 anniversary. For this I sculpted a femal fast jet pilot cica 1994 based on Jo Salter who was the RAF's first front line female fast jet pilot;

I am now adding a second female pilot. This time from WW2, a pilot of the Air Transport Auxilliary, very loosly based on Mary Ellis who flew many different types of aircraft, including fighters.

Here is the bust primed using Games Workshop white:

My technique is to undercoat using Vallejo acrylic paints:

Next will be adding oil paints to produce the final colours ...

Nice one. Nearly finished the Tornado pilot. Will Mary Ellis be commercial?

Possibly. I am painting a resin casting and using the experiance to improve the master. If it goes well one may be winging its way to Peter D

Looking good Peter. Must be so nice to be able to paint your own sculpts. May Ellis looks great - can't wait to have a go at painting her.

Good evening all

What a loverly day today has been, the only problem with sunny weather is that there is no excuse not to work in the garden so modelling takes a bit of a back seat!

Yesterday evening I made some progress, the torso is nearly finished. I resculpted her 'wings' which I have yet to paint and refine the blouse a little. Her face has had the first coat of oil paint and needs some refinement with a little more contrast.

Sorry for the poor quality photo - using the Ipad.

One change which I will make is to her left eye. I have based the bust on the photo of Mary Ellis and in the photo her left eyebrow is lower at the outside edge than the outside edge of her right eyebrow. As I paint the bust this starts to look a little odd so changing here eye may be called for. We will see as this progresses.

Hi john

Glad you can join me.

There is a slight hold up on painting this one - I was not happy with her face so I am in the middle of resculpting her. The torso is fine, apart from possibly adjusting the collar it is just the face. I will post a photo of the nearly finished re-sculpting in a little while.

Fantastic Peter G...I'm still a long way from face sculpting. Look forward to the re-sculpt of the face.

Cheers,
Richard

Peter - the first head under the book cover looked pretty good to me.
Is the one above (next to iPhone box) the same head, looks more like Jeremy Clarkson to me? Seems to have lost the girly look

Here is a photo of the new head. It is not quite finished, some more rd]efinement is neede d, especially the hair line but you can get an idea of how different this one is from the original one. Finishig it is this weekend's target.24E17F50-BFF8-417B-8248-3E3ACC367E5D.jpeg

Hi guys

I am taking a short break from sculpting to return to painting, especially finishing the couple of busts I have started - wouldn't want any unfinished projects around - if i ignoring the Stug IV and couple of Universal Carrier conversions!

You may have seen Peter Day's excellent painting of this RAF pilot which is ahard act to follow.

My technique is to underpaint in acrylics and then add glazes in oil.

Here is a photo of the revised head with the first glazes applied. The eyes need a lot of work, including dulling down the blue.
