I am getting the urge to build a rally car but having never built anything but big green killing machines a little advice on good kits to get me going would be appreciated.

cant go wrong with the Tamiya scooby or evo or celica or corolla......or even better the monte carlo mini....a gem of a kit!

Yes, I agree - Tamiya are the benchmark.

I have just completed an Italeri Lancia Stratos - a basic kit, quality decals (huge surprise) and the rest is up to you. I went the extra mile, added side windows, driver and nav + seat belts, a base and weathering. Have a look under construction and completion.

The main idea is to enjoy the build.:thumb2:

Belkits have specialised in rally cars with a range of modern stuff. They also made an Escort Mk 1 rally car from the 1960's.
Latest historical rally car announced is an MG Metro 6R4 that should be out any time soon.
There is an after market company named Moto Bitz making resin conversion kits and decals for the Belkits Mk 1 Escort.

Yes I'm looking forward to the 6R4. A local guy who makes race exhausts for all manner of teams including F1, used to drive one to work each day, very interesting!

Tamiya used to be the number one for rally kits. Sadly, they haven't produced any for many years, however they do have a nice back catalogue of good kits still available to choose from. More recently Belkits and Aoshima/Beemax are the go to guys for new rally stuff. I've purchased a few kits by each maker and they are very good kits. Nice colour instructions and boxes literally stuffed full of parts.
Personally if you're just making your first kit I'd go for a subject you like that's not too complicated a colour scheme, with simple decals, just to get into the whole rally model thing..

Hi Dave,
Firstly good to see your living in God's county........ DEVON, I was born in Chagford North Moor........
As mentioned the Tamiya rally cars are good. I'm a bit of a Mini lover......... see pictures plus a couple of other kits.
Am half way through the build of a Scoubie........

Thanks Dave but when I put the BA decals on, someone took me to task and said I was wrong and that model of Escort never had them on! So I sent him a message with the photo's at a recent Autosport show at the NEC!
I've heard of Hiroboy, I've bought spares and decals, but tend to print my own decals now. Crafty Computer Co. has 10 sheets either clear or white backed for £6.99! Not £15 a sheet A5 size as most aftermarket decals are!
Even Hobbycraft 12 miles away at Milton Keynes, but a Revell or Tamiya kits at £40, er no thanks, I go to ebay and look for 'already started' kits for sale and save about £30! Well that's how it is when your retired and want to keep building!
Yes I've built a couple of Belkits, one Skoda Fabia Rally Car and a VW Polo WRC, very nice kits, I only glad my wife bought them for me for birthday and Christmas!
