Hi all
Scottie, Steven, Peter, Peter D and Joe - thanks guys for you support.
Masking is done. Not as neat or as accurate as some I've seen but hopefully will do the job. The rear doors are still to be fitted before painting.

Now I'm well on with this I won't feel guilty when I start the Gannet for the AAGB :tongue-out3:

Hi Pete
I have looked carefully and no decals

Well - time for a drum roll and a pat on the back for yours truly. The reason - for the first time in my mogglin career of 9 years I got a pre shade to work :smiling:
Primed with grey Stynylrez
P1060050.JPG

Preshade with dark grey - a bit clumsy looking.
P1060051.JPG

A colour coat of very diluted Humbrol enamel followed with a satin varnish ready for decals.

OK, could be better but the preshade has not been obliterated.

All the little bits

aha, good to see some paint start flowing here Jim. I like the preshade: quite subtle but that's the whole point. Well done I'd say!

Cheers

Hi all
Appreciate your kind comments. Building this kit certainly needs your encouragement.
Decals on. They were like the rest of the kit - uncooperative in the extreme, stiff and horrible. Micro Sol had only limited effect even with 3 or 4 applications. The images were not centered on the carrier film and so the film had to be trimmed on every decal.

I was very pleased with the masking. Worked far better than I imagined. No touching up needed.

I haven't started the rotors yet but the other parts are all ready to add.

Paint looks good Jim :thumb2:

Pity about those decals though and all that silvering or has the camera made them look worse than they actually are?

Very nice update Jim, masking turned out superb indeed :thumb2: . Pity of the decal-problems but I'm sure you made the best of it.

Strangely, the decals were about the best thing about the version of this kit that I built. They did need a few doses of Microsol, but eventually settled down fine. The rest of your build looks great though.

I know you've had some 'fun' with this build, but it's certainly looking the part now.

Beautiful work Jim. How you get such a clean finish is beyond me.

Hi all
Thanks guys for your kind comments. It is a kit I will complete but will not be happy with :rolling:

I reget to say that the silvering is every bit as bad the photos show!! A combination of poor surface preparation, thick decals and perhaps needing a more aggressive decal solution.
Is that saying much?
Not a lot but at least your comment made me smile :smiling:

Anyway onwards and upwards. Only a week to Telford :thumb2:

Not really, but my decals settled down nicely, even over the raised detail, without much silvering.
Oh, just realised, my civvie EC145 had gloss paintwork.
I wish my masking had been this good though!

Hi all
So back to this helicopter. The body is complete. The tail boom fitted well and the weight in the nose proved sufficient to stop it rearing up :smiling: All the aerials etc stuck on.

The doors are to be fitted and the rotors still to do but the end is in sight.

Hi all
This has been gathering dust for too long. Almost there now.
Rotors built and painted. Just a satin coat needed.
P1060128.JPG

Doors fitted in an open position. There was no clear gluing place so I placed a blob of epoxy and taped the doors in place.
P1060129.JPG

I'll be glad to see this done. It has been rather frustration and the end result has a lot of faults.
