I've been tinkering with this off and on, as a pleasant interlude from other builds.

I have build this great little kit on here before, but that was full hull.
Here it is.
P1210410.JPG

This thread will be the building of the same type, in a different camo. and cruising mid. Atlantic, so although I won't need all the underwater stuff, I'll still leave the hull in one piece and just bury it in the 'oggin!

I love the VIIC/41 version with all the A.A. stuff on the extended Conning Tower.

The kit will be O.O.B., but I will add a crew.

Away we go....

Hull halves joined and deck on.

Boy's, it's great to have you aboard on this cruise into the 'Pond'. I hope I don't let you down.

First job is the below the waterline Dk. Grey.

I don't use masking tape. Two reasons. No worries about edge creep or stripping the new paint when removing the tape.

I use a pencil and mark here and there around the hull at the waterline. I don't worry if the brush 'Wobbles' a bit when following the line. A few patrols in the Atlantic would soon smudge any pretty paintwork!

I'll push swiftly on...

Here's the full hull painted.
I've painted the hull almost the same as my last attempt, but the conning tower will be different.

No frills, just one coat of Vallejo Air light grey on the upper hull, a mid. grey for the camouflage stripes. Deck painted in a dark grey/green. All simply brushed straight on the virgin plastic, and ready for a bit of detail and weathering.

These crew are going to be interesting if that's the length of the vessel. ( Note the nautical term, hope your suitably impressed with this effort )
Polly says he's willing to be part of the crew ;)

Thanks Chris and 453. Nice to have you posting.

Er, 453, the parrot can go and **** himself! However, I'm modelling a sub. in pack ice at the minute, it would be my pleasure to sign him on for that voyage. I feel sure he would be most at home in -40 degrees!

Thanks for the interest, chaps

Thanks boys.

Dave, U. Boats and submarines are probably my favourite subject. - next to wrecking tanks!

The hull is now more or less finished.

Guard rails and safety wires fitted.
I like to fit these at this stage. All are easier to fix without the Conning Tower to contend with.....Eezeline used.

you can't have too many U-boote in here, glad to see another one built. And the fun part of this scale is that it builds fast. Looks great so far. I'm looking forward to see you do the crew and seascape!

Cheers

Thanks Steve and Wouter.

Wouter. You are quite right, they do build fast!

Conning tower built and painted. I've done the same camouflage I used on the big 1/72 version as I built on here a while ago.

The guard rails are obviously way too thick, but as I always try and build OOB, I've used them. They are about the size of my small finger nail. so impossible (For me anyway) to reduce down.
Once I have the crew standing about and paint a bit of camo. on them, they should hopefully blend in a bit better.

Painted with a cocktail stick and a safety pin.
