Hi,
Since I am into ship building mode now I took out one of my shelf Queens and dusted it. The Skywave USS Bogue now boxed under Tamiya. I had great ideas to rename it to a British Royal Navy escort carrier with Martlets and Swordfish aircraft on her decks...alas it fizzled out. So this is what it looks like now...

1.jpg

Man...did I have so much time then to drillout the hatches and replace with PE...all along the running side-walks.

2.jpg

The PE hatches can be quite convincing opened with a hollowed out doorway.

3.jpg

The PE set from Goldmedal was in stainless steel which was sharp in detail but quite hard to bend. After taking this out tragedy struck. Cat decided to re-arrange the table and I lost the radar antennae. Used a railing to replace it.

4.jpg

Another shot of a teased open door...I definitely had more time then.

5.jpg

Let's see if I have courage to finish this

Cheers,
Richard

Hi Chris, man...I've certainly opened a can of worms. Now I have to refrain from checking out all my other boxes of ships and PE detail.

Richard

Hi Richard
I'm sure you'll get up the mojo to finish this. How long ago was it when this was started? Deserves to be completed. Love the idea of open hatches with the PE doors.

Looking good. I've always had a notion to do a ship build but not sure where to start. Any pointers.

No the question really is what recommendations are there for a first ship kit and scale.

Hi Warren, the usual instinct is to go for an impressive ship like a battleship but I think a destroyer would be a good starter kit. The genre has a few scales for different brands. Even those in 1/700 are well detailed. You may have to choose a scale that you can work within your skill level and eyesight. The two scales that have a wide range are 1/700 and 1/350 with at least 5 brands that make them with excess to after market accessories. Get the latest retooled kits and you will not regret. Hasegawa, Fujimi, Dragon, Skywave and Trumpeter have the latest molds and sometimes give basic PE.
Start small and if you like it then progress to larger kits.

Richard

That size of detailing must strain your eyes Richard. Great to see you will be finishing it off. Figures, wingy things to be added??

Hi Steve, have always wanted to get on with this build but being stuck way back in the cabinet i almost forgot it. Yes, lots of figures and wingy things to make the deck busy.

Richard

I found the AS radar that sits at the top of the mast and since the replacement from a railing looks ok I'm contemplating of not correcting it. The PE radar is ofcourse finer.

Cheers,
Richard
