Excuse me Simon .

A bit of ivy growing out of the body work then??:smiling5:

Looking forward to seeing where your imagination takes you.

When I was a boy a few years back my school mate changed his Mini steering wheel to one that was about 12 inches across. You could nearly touch each of your knuckles when driving it. It didnt last long as we soon wrapped it around a tree one night:smiling5::smiling3::cool:

God that must have been a long long time:tongue-out3: flairs on your trousers and on the wheel arches .
You must be nearly my age:smiling: .

Thank you Simon .
Love the alterations, had my Mini with the mat black bonnet and go fast exhaust !
oh to be young again .
John .

I was more of a cut the flares off and have knee high shorts with bits of denim thread hanging down. This was because my mum would lower the hem on them as I grew taller and ended up with multiple shades of blue along the lower half of the trousers. Not a good look for a teenage lad. Don't forget the blue vest with yellow trim and the Freddie Mercury three strip white ADIDAS trainers. Well I thought I looked cool anyway. That's when summer lasted for weeks without rain

Oh my god, did we really look like that, I have a pair of flairs still. Keep telling Management they will be collectors items one day.

Hi Simon,
Firstly Happy New Year. How is your Dad?
Love the subject, will drag up a chair, home made ginger nuts and a cup of tea.
Again your attention to detail is out standing.
As you know I'm a real fan of the Mini.
Have a couple of these kits.see the picture.......:smiling4::smiling4::smiling4::smiling4:
My idea was for these minis being repaired after a rally.
Excellent skills regarding the cutting out of the moulded parts. What type of saw do you use?

Hey don't knock the flairs, a pair of flairs once saved my life.............

In a time far far away, the 1970's it was,
I was riding a Honda XL 100 up to visit my Grandmother,
the entrance to my Gran's was just a dirt track cut through the bush,
one car wide, anyway I turned off the bigger dirt road onto the entrance track,
and there was this black snake who was crossing the track,
he was heading left so I veered as far to the right as I could,
only it wasn't far enough, so I ended up doing the one thing they tell you not to do,
I ran over his tail, old Joe Blake wasn't happy, he flipped back over himself and I felt,
his head hit the flair of my jeans just between my ankle and calf muscle,
yeah I know, the flair's didn't really save me but it makes a good story.

Simon Looking forward to this, so many memories tied to Mini's.

cheers
Ross

Mike - just a couple eh :smiling: I think I still have a few in the stash as well

I use a JLC razor saw - basically a razor blade with teeth on the edges instead of a blade. They are mega sharp but very thin so not much material is removed.

Most of the parts removal though has been done with a sewing needle mounted in a pin vice - doors, windows, boot lid

Ross - long time no see. Why were you tied to the mini ? Is it some kind of weird sport down your way :smiling:

Looking at the dates it's been a while

Did a little more on this one yesterday

mini-024_2019-8-28.jpg
more damage inflicted - roof corner

The roof guttering also got the channel opened out with an Olfa P cutter as it is moulded without much of a channel

scuttle corner panel got rust holes - another typical rust spot

rear side windows got the frame flange added

mini-025_2019-8-28.jpg
rear valance corner rusted out

mini-026_2019-8-28.jpg
and the other corner

petrol tank filler cap positions drilled out

rear light mounting holes drilled out

mini-027_2019-8-28.jpg
A panel damage

mini-028_2019-8-28.jpg
holes for seatbelt reels opened out in rear companion boxes and boxes installed

mini-029_2019-8-28.jpg
spare wheel well rusted out

mini-023_2019-8-28.jpg
rear seat comes moulded with the rear parcel shelf so a bit of work was required with the Olfa cutter to separate the seat back without damaging it

the base squab was removed from the back in the same way

the parcel shelf was then extended and filled to add the bit lost by removal of the seat back

seat base will also require a bit of work to extend the back edge

A bit of progress but still a long way to go

Nice Simon.
Did you see the re run of the Mini Factory on BBC 4 last night . Fantastic insight to the way the new cars are built. Spoilt by James May showing just how little mechanical aptitude he really has , and silly jokes when they did links .

Hi Simon
I too had forgotten this. Your Range Rover was stunning so this will be the same I'm sure. Excellent work so far and Minis were almost as good as Alfas and Ford Anglias at rusting so plenty of reference material :rolling: :anguished:
